  1. Hi guys, I thought I'd put up a link to some video I did with a mate at Mac Park. I know I still have work to do on body positioning, but from where I was before the CSS, to where I am now is astounding. To anyone who listens, I say the best thing I have ever done on a bike are the CSS schools. My bike has the camera mounted on the rear swingarm. My mad mate is on the white GSXR750 following me. He is about 8 seconds a lap faster than me, but we both had a ball doing this session, despite the fact that my bike was sliding the front wheel around left hand corners (normally my preferred side) and put the wind up me big time.   2. I have completed up to and including level 4. I would be really interested to have someone from CSS contact the author and correct their mistake. Perhaps even get them to do the school and see how much their attitude changes.
  3. I read the article below and it totally confused me. I believe that the author of the article has some points correct and others incorrect. Can anyone from the CSS explain what is what? As explained in the school, sliding the rear tyre around a corner will point the front wheel to the inside of the turn and sharpen the overall turn of the bike. The author uses physics to explain what and how it happens but I really think he's got a lot of it wrong, or am I just not understanding it correctly? Even his understanding of how/why a bike turns is not 100% correct. Quoted below: So what makes bikes corner? Leaning for a start, but that isn’t the exclusive reason. What about steering; everyone knows about counter steering and how it is used to make a bike turn. Geometry? It’s true to say that changing the set-up of a bike changes the way it corners, but a bike that is badly set-up or designed still goes around corners – it just does it slower.   5. Cobie, I have attended 3 different schools in Australia and NONE of them come close to the real world, real time coaching your school provides. The others were basically a complete waste of money! I am super excited to get back on some tracks here in Oz and start practicing the skills I was taught. Fan-bloody-tastic!
  6. Hi guys, I had a fabulous time at The Streets of Willow Springs on Monday & Tuesday. The best thing for me was the getting on the lean/slide bike to correctly orientate my body positioning to hang off. Many thanks go to Gerry and Brian for helping me jump this huge hurdle. I must work on my visual skills and get some timing points happening! Well worth the trip from Australia. Thanks again folks, Rob Ward.
  7. Hi all. I have a Motard style Aprilia Dorsoduro and my track bike is a GSXR750. My question is what riding style do you suggest I should use on the Aprilia? My Aprilia does not seem to mind if I attempt to hang off a little or sit up purely motard style (on the road at legal speeds). I do not feel as though I can get down on the tank for a straight push on the bars for countersteering as it's not really suited to that riding style anyway. As it is my daily ride, how can I try to emulate the 'Twist of the wrist' style on this bike? I know the bars are exceptionally wide and a little input gives a lot of result, however I can not get comfortable trying the true 'hang off', arms on the tank style. Thoughts? Rob.
  8. The V8 Supercars will be in Texas in May 17th to 19th. Casey will not be there because he runs in a development category (basically last years cars spec). He did pretty well at the Clipsl 500 (my home race) starting rear of grid (due to a separate issue) and finished 14th. A pretty good job I reckon. Holden (GM), Ford, Nissan and AMG Mercedes are now all part of the new Future Car V8 series. They 'dumb' the car engines down to 650 hp for parity with the aero packages developing approx 355Kg (780 lbs) of downforce at 200Kph (125mph).
  9. Thanks for the welcome. I'll know more of when I can come over when I get my work schedule for next year. I do fly in, fly out, work and I will try for either the Willow Springs or Las Vegas tracks, as suggested. I know I can do the school in Oz, but I really want the experience of trying out all your cool toys as well! (And the bragging rights of saying I did the CSS in the U.S.)
  10. Hi there, my name is Rob. I have been riding road bikes for the past 9 years. Prior to that I rode some trail bikes earlier in the piece (35 years ago)! We have a bit of a goat track in Adelaide called Mallala Raceway, however I have ridden Phillip Island 5 times in 8 years. I ride an old '96 GSXR750 as a track bike and have a 2009 Aprilia Dorsoduro 750 as my daily ride. I went to the Island without knowing anything about the CSS but since then I have read TOTW 1 & 2 and seen the video many, many times. My first timed lap at the Island was a staggeringly slow 2 min 43 sec! Each time I can, I pick up TOTW and re-read each one. I try to put into practice what I read and so far I have managed to get my time to a slightly more respectable 2 min 7 sec. I am going to come to the US and do a 2 day camp as I want to hit a sub 2 min lap on my next try there. (My best mate does consistant 1 min 57 sec, so I have to try to stay with him). I know I need to work on body position and timing, with right handers being my nemesis. I call myself Mr Freeze because that is what I do when I get into a right hander, too fast for my comfort level. I have to talk to myself (yell sometimes too) to pull on the left grip as I cannot get my right hand to push on the bar as it seems to be locked! Anyway, I'd love to be able to use all the 'toys' (slide bike etc) when I go, so look out America! :-) Cheers for now, Rob.
