  1. I put it down to technique.I have seen riders admiring Pedrosa's pickup.I agree - He can pick the bike up without any wobbles.Even Lorenzo can't do that.
  2. This is such an interesting discussion guys.I wonder if u could have like a " Steering meter " just like you can see how much throttle and brake is applied in the CSS coach videos for example or the lean angle meter in MotoGP. I just got me a new bike and have to work a good deal on my steering. The toolkit arrived and i will get around to setting up my handlebars and position of the levers etc.I want to try different positions and settle on the best.Any guidelines for this [ sorry if this is hijacking the thread ] ? I want to make the steering process as easy as possible.Shall i put the bars as wide as possible for the best leverage? Benny, you mentioned you have to push HARD to steer the bike at higher speeds.I guess this is my problem.I could steer the bike fine at 60 KPH and was doing the same thing quicker at 100 KPH.The bike would change direction quick but less.Could you explain how to correctly practice pushing harder on the bars? I fear it could upset the bike. Can i practice while the bike is stationary to get a feel of it first? How do i progressively learn to steer the bike accurately and quickly? Also you spoke of maintaining pressure on the inside and even outside bar.I have heard you maintain pressure on the inside bar to keep the bike turning and maintain pressure on the outside bar to keep from crashing.I did not understand this fully. Can you verify this statement? Can you explain how what exactly maintaining pressure is, it's uses and how to cultivate this? Thanks
  3. Hi Guys, I am the proud owner of a bike at last.Spent the first few miles getting accustomed to the sporty position and setting up the bike as best i could. The tool kit is yet to arrive and i will set it up fully then. 1. The right clip on is longer than the left.I was out practicing U turns and such today and could take left turns on full lock but not right turns cause my hand would hit the tank. For some reason i am more comfortable taking left turns than right.Any suggestions to nip this in the bud? 2. The bike is rather small for my frame.Going into a full tuck, i have to crunch up my arms at an extreme angle even though i am as far back up the seat as possible.Any suggestions to tuck without straining myself? 3. At 60 kph but at 100 kph [ 60 mph ] the bike is hard to steer.I am contemplating dropping the front.Though i suppose i am not steering properly. In either case, i suppose i should look at both options? 4. My neck is being strained a bit.Is it the wind buffeting it or am i to blame? Thoughts? 5. how do i look such that my neck is not strained at full tuck? I tried it at speed and it felt horrible....i was looking at the speedo half the time and felt awkward. 6. Any drills to get me started on exploring countersteering and leaning in a progressive manner? I will do a lot of gymkhana style control work to start with but this does not involve much countersteering.Jst turns at full lock.I will add lean slowly but too much is detrimental in this activity. Thanks
  4. " Learn to trust your tires " - more like " Learn your tires, and trust what you have learnt "
  5. The ring, Laguna and PI are definitely on my list.Would like to do some of the GP circuits...Mugello, Assen, Le Mans etc.
  6. Hehe....any other " Bucket List " tracks?
  7. Seemed like the rider was on a supermoto kinda bike and was trying to ride it so?
  8. Using preload to adjust adjust ride height is more a car thing no?
  9. Hehe...anyone notice the camber on the road?
  10. Benny is correct, the profile and angle/height of the lever matter more.I haven't tried shorty levers, but i found how far out the lever was and what kind of angle it was set at made a difference.
  11. One question - Is it that the bike may be too unstable for our current skill levels? As we become better riders, can we set up the bike to steer faster and faster to match the increased rider ability?
  12. Watched the Valencia GP today.Hayden and Lorenzo are about the only people not doing the leg out thing. If there was some advantage to the leg out thing, wouldn't an expert dirt tracker like Hayden who would have dragged his left foot around a lot be using it? Also interesting to note how Rossi keeps his foot out but close to the bike, most of them kinda halfway out, and Dovi and Crutchlow fling it out like they are trying to kick someone [ Dovi picture above ].Can someone try to make sense of this? Thanks
  13. I too like the bike to steer with minimal effort. Why spend more to get the same thing?
  14. Thanks guys, this was great insight.
  15. Actually concerning this whole inside peg weighting, the increasing number of riders dragging their boots into the turn is something i wonder about. What are the advantages? Even MOTO3 guys like Miller do it. Is it a case of monkey see monkey do, or is there some benefit?
  16. So you turned the shock upside down? Pardon me, i have no bike for reference. I thought ride height was changed using shims?
  17. One suspension tuner at the track flipped the eccentric link at the top of the shock What is this? Could you explain?
  18. Thanks for the link Tyler....one you ride a race bike, there is no going back is there? Robert found that out at his expense.. Man..wish i could ride a GP bike one day.
  19. That i think applies for most stock bikes vs race versions.
  20. The rev matching part is very interesting.Soon the S1000RR maybe the weapon of choice for everyone. Have to see what the 2015 R1 delivers though.
  21. Yes...a nice titanium circle on the helmet just in case.
  22. I don't know what he was trying, but this pic is cool!! The next thing in Body position?
