  1. I crashed on 6 in Loudon NH last weekend, still not sure what happened. It was raining on part of the track and it was the first lap of the second session so conditions didn't help. Coach said tires weren't ready. The next day during the expert races I noticed that all bikes were riding an earlier apex (you can see the light tire marks close to the inside, that's where everybody was going through more or less). That turn has lot of camber and I was lured in to the middle of the track to try a faster turn. Also the front tire direction looks wrong to begin with in the first pic and might be an hint of what I did wrong. Shouldn't the front point slightly to the outside when leaning on a corner? I'll appreciate any feedback. Thanks, Spaghetti.
  2. More infos here: http://rideapart.com/2013/06/by-the-numbers-marc-marquezs-mugello-crash/
  3. As I am preparing to move from squid to experienced track rider and maybe racing, I wonder how far are folks ready to drive to reach the track. For me this is the biggest challenge to enjoy the racing hobby. What does your driving schedule looks like when doing amateur racing? California probably offers a lot more options than the rest of the country. Anybody in the north-east?
  4. Yes, school bike, my riding gear. I'm on the waiting list for 4/19 because there are no school bikes available, I believe.
  5. I'm registered for Willow 4/20 and on the waiting list for 4/19. If somebody can't make it on 4/19 please let me know! All fire up to start the season, it was a long winter here in NYC. Looking forward to meet great riders in Cali.
  6. So if you keep a bike for track days only you don't need any mandatory insurance? Do you even need to register the bike and put a plate on it?
  7. I think bike rentals is the major factor. I know Kawasaki is offering test drives this year with Team Promotion, but they are the only one AFAIK and it's the first time I hear them doing it. Why major sport bike brands don't promote their machines more often by offering test drive or training on track? So a beginner is supposed to take his bike in a van, drive 5/6 hours to the track, prep the machine for track (pass technical inspection), ride a few 20 minute sessions and then take the pick-up track home for another 5 hours drive?
  8. So if I wanted to return to CSS after doing Level I to IV (don't have a track bike for now and like the BMW1000R rentals), what should I register for? More Level IV? Code Race? What the returning Level IV students do?
  9. I'd like somebody (maybe some of our Brit friends) to explain me this. It's beyond any comprehension I have of bike racing passion: Why in this world would somebody decide to race on streets rather than track?
  10. Would it be possible to collect and show Kamm circle data to students? Apparently it's relatively easy to transmit this data to a computer today. What's the cost of this technology? I'm reading about Kamm circles in "The upper half of the motorcycle", pg 100. It shows how beginner and intermediate riders tend to use lateral and longitudinal forces selectively, while more experienced riders use them both at the same time, up to the sustainable tire limits. It could help the learning process greatly to know where the student stands.
  11. I need to buy a racing suit and am undecided between a Vanson at $1,000+ or AGV Sport Imola at $700 ($480 with the CSS offer). AGV Sport sounds like a great offer but I wouldn't be able to tell the benefit of a Vanson for the life of me. I read that "the finishing" is very good... What makes Vanson almost twice as expensive? Any experience between the two? PS: Reading the Vanson FAQ, they claim their leathers are meant to last for long and can be repaired, even after multiple crashes: http://vansonleathers.com/vanson-race-suits/ten_reasons_vanson.html
  12. Keeping the crotch away from the tank before entering the corners can be a strenuous exercise for our legs. The body tends to slid towards the tank all the time. Sure tightening the legs around the tank when breaking helps, but I was wondering if there is any gear designed for correct body position. All sport bike seats I've tried are too long and "slippery", probably to compromise between track and street riding and to accomodate different rider builds/height. I remember one of the coaches saying that pro riders use modified tank shapes to fit their body type. Is there any gear to help keep the correct seat position? All seat customizations I've seen are mainly for comfort.
  13. From what I hear following motogp most fo the injures are on shoulders, so I wonder why these full protective jackets aren't more in use.
  14. This one got many high reviews at motorcycle-superstore.com: http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/35677/i/icon-field-armor-stryker-vest
  15. I thought protective jackets were designed for motorcross only but I'm now seeing many advertised for track. There are all sort of models, some of them will make you look like a middle-age iron cast warrior. Here's a couple: http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/dainese-wave-pro-jacket http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/icon-field-armor-stryker-vest?gclid=CLbn-LTyoLsCFbB9Ogod9RMAPA Anybody has experience with these? Is there any value compared to a simple back protector?
  16. Excellent, thank you for the information!
  17. Living in NYC can have many challenges for bikers. I am interested in track days and maybe racing at some point. Would like to connect for information on parking, van sharing, bike shipping, track days logistic, etc.
  18. There is this new movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2960470/?ref_=nv_sr_1 Is it ok to ride in SoCal during the winter? How come there are no SSC sessions scheduled Dec-Feb?
  19. I was at the Vegas boot camp a couple of weeks ago and had a great experience there with the coaches and the other students, on and off the track. But now it's the end of the season, and I'm left with little riding options. So what's a new rider meant to do to go through the long North-East winter? I thought I would leaf some books, maybe Keith TOTW. I got this one too: http://www.amazon.com/English-Italian-Spanish-language-PlayStation-3/dp/B00DYSEVQE/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1383178449&sr=1-1&keywords=motogp What does your winter looks like above the equator?
