  1. I'd second the comment on good TC, I'm still occasionally correcting bad street habits of poor TC.
  2. I was going to say Troy Corser but he won AMA and then WSB in 96. So maybe Foggy although I don't see him taking coaching very well!
  3. I know of a few with the pit bull stands and they seem to be impressed with them. I've seen the front handle ones and they do look easier to use particulary when having to do it yourself. As for the front stand I have both types and prefer the pin style, it seems to be a little sturdier. The advantage of course is that it does allow you fork removal down the road if that is something you wish to tackle later. I had the under fork leg type first and changed to the other type when I added tire warmers.
  4. LINK TO ROSSI VID You have to sign up to see it.
  5. i had hoped to get out for drag race day before our next race weekend, but that won't happen due to scheduling conflicts. Thanks for the advice though, is there a specific rev range most people on 600's start from?
  6. I used to bring the revs up to about 5000 rpm, at the drop of the flag, try to feed the clutch out progressively while adding throttle. Both feet were on the ground with my weight forward as much as possible. I would often end up in too much of a wheelie and have to get out of the gas. I have since changed to just trying to get a fast street start with no revs. I suspect my issues stem from how quickly I release the clutch. I have started keeping only my right foot on the ground with the left ready for my shift to second and trying to get my right back on the pegs asap.
  7. Since I started racing, my starts have been less than stellar, if not downright awful which often leaves me playing catch up through the race. Any tips for getting a good start would be appreciated. I'm going to try to get out for a drag race test and tune soon to see if i can improve. I'm on a ZX6R (636).
  8. Thanks for dropping in Adam, hope we can keep you entertained as we muddle through this art!
  9. As mentioned tires are like oil. I just try to think of em as round black sticky things! But I can agree about the change in construction, brand and profile. I was on a set of Avons one year that were so far removed from the previous set of Dunlops I'd been running that you would have sworn they were made of wood as opposed to silica black. One change that was particularly noticeable was the profile as these had a rounder one compared to the triangle of the Dunlops. Point being you definitely may need to make geometry changes when changing models or brands of tires.
  10. The 2 day camps include the cost of using the schools ZX6R's for both days.
  11. I'm using the Ultra lap from XT racing, but will be upgrading soon to their GPS one similar to the starlane. I like the ultra, stores lots of laps and lots of places( or someone there) have a beacon for it already. I think it was a couple of hundred but I believe they make a mini version with less features as well. You could stash it somewhere but I like seeing it as it gives me instant feedback if I'm working on something, particularly when using with splits, (requires more beacons). Also a little cheaper than Hubbard's option!
  12. It was leant to me by a friend in our local club who's known as being thrifty! But it was the old style of pump known as the stand pump, with the T handle at the top. I thought I was going to be in for a coronary but was suprised how little time and effort it did take.
  13. Certainly you'll want to take the bodywork off, add frame sliders if you can, some guys also put on handlebar sliders and swingarm ones as well. If this is to be a track bike only, I would reccomend lockwiring at least your oil drain bolt, oil filter, rad cap and drain bolt, you might also want to switch to distilled water or water wetter in your rad. Male sure to change back to coolant in off season if you live somwhere cold. I've seen 2 bikes this year with cracked heads because they weren't changed back.
  14. I just used a bicycle pump two weekends ago. I was suprised how well it worked to add a few pounds of air. Certainly couln't use it for beading tires after a change though.
  15. Great first post Beernose! How we can apply the techniques with a very clear example of what can go wrong and more importantly how to fix it. Glad your friend is a more confident rider in the wet. Welcome to the forum!
  16. Welcome to the forum Santiago, lots of good info here.
  17. We came back to -20 and 10 more cm of snow! No riding for me yet.
  18. Most definitely that is one of the other side benefits, not to mention my increased life expectancy!
  19. Is this Benoit? Glad you could join the forum, lots of good info and feedback here. Craig
  20. Got back from Vegas at 4:41 am Monday morning, cramped flight but both the girlfriend and I were still buzzing. Thanks to the entire CSS team once again, you are all fantastic and do a great job. I'd like to thank Mike Pesicka and Pete Castanik my level 3 and 4 on track coaches for your insight and help, every one of the off track coaches, particularly Peter I believe his name was for helping me with my blip on braking/downshifts and the bitchin clutchless downshifts. Cobie, it was great to be able to formally introduce myself, and thanks for participating so actively in this forum. Big kudos to Jim Small for being Char's on track coach for both days, she can be handful at the best of times and I really appreciate your efforts. She is still talking about the school and has already told me she'll be doing some trackdays again this year and may want to start racing soon. AJ thanks for the tip on the Cycle Gear store, we were not able to find boots for Char but I did get a smokin deal on an 07 Teknic Speedstar suit reg price at $1400 US for $499 US. It doesn't quite fit yet but it will by the time race season rolls around.
  21. Thought I'd bring this to the top and thank the people on the forum who mentioned the ABS diet. I got the book about 6 weeks ago and started eating better. Started 2 weeks later with the workouts and cardio. Dropped 17 lbs in 4 weeks and felt a lot better on the bike at the 2 day in Vegas last weekend. That's a gain of almost 2.5 hp for the upcoming race season, and it didn't cost me a dime! Looking forward to losing about 36 more over the next 8-10 weeks, best thing is I'm not hungry and I haven't had (nor do I crave) the 5 chocolate bars a week I used to eat. Thanks again.
  22. Hi Paul, guess I'll be seeing you in Vegas this wknd, my flight leaves in about 7 hours, can't wait! My GF is doing level 1-2 and I'm hitting 3-4. See you there. Craig
  23. She wears a mens 8-8.5 or a womens 9-9.5. Hope you'll have something or it might make our Friday visit to Cycle Gear very important. I'll likely bring my Sidi's along for myself.
