  1. OK,maybe this is crystal clear to all, and I'm a bit dense, but he was either taking a leak or chewing on some grass....?

Appologies, a bit complicated this one...missed the slip road, left the tarmac and was 'moving slowly over pasture land'....Grazing!

Missed the slip road? Last time I checked, the shortest distance between two points was a straight line. I was simply making the most efficient use of the available space.

  2. Interesting topic kawadude. A lot of riders will have some experience to share on this one for sure!

Sounds like you've got a good idea on what happened. Certainly from the info you've given, it checks out. Big lean, too much gas, rear end low side.

Fajita Dave's point in his last post about changing lean and adding gas together is a good one too. This would have definately contributed if it was the case. Particularly as you say you were running wide. Is it possible you made a small steering input in the middle of the turn to try and get back on line?

  3. Welcome Ozfireblade,

Thanks for joining up to the forum.

At all our Phillip Island Ride Day events a Superbike School coach runs a "First Timers Program". Part of this program is an off-track drill from the level 1 course. It's short, but very effective, and actually covers the point you have in question. You'll get an intro to the coach running the program at the riders briefing, and they'll take care of you from there.

By the time you finish the actual level 1 course, you'll know exactly what the steering process involves. Come say hi at the track so I have a face for the name :)

    Cheers

  4.

If he was going to do anything to avoid hitting you Jody, he would have needed to do it back before he came into that camera's view.

I'm with Bullet. That's about as bad a judge of speed and distance as I've seen.

We run Track Days here in Oz as well as the schools, and for sure, we'd be tracking that guy down.

Hope you heal quick and get back to the track soon.

  5. Good question Hotfoot! One of the great things about racing is you can't help but learn something about yourself from simply being on the grid.

I guess dealing with nerves is a personal thing, and I don't know that there is any one way that would work for 2 people.

I have found that the mind just goes crazy with thoughts in the lead up to a race, and it becomes pretty distracting. Do you find something similar? Or maybe the thoughts get you so fired up that the adrenaline just takes over and it's like you're just a passenger on some red misted rollercoaster?

  6. Good topic Bullet......

I think what bcnu has mentioned is something most of us will identify with. Distraction. Regardless of what the distraction is, if it takes away any of your $10, it's going to have an effect. The guy in front of you, that lap time your aiming for, did I leave the oven on at home............

I see it in our trainee coaches when they go for their riding pass. Just knowing someone has their attention on you can be a huge distraction. When I would ride with Steve Brouggy (Oz school director), just knowing he was there would take just enough attention that I would make errors (some pretty spectactular!)

So, for me, the biggest and most frequent mistake I make in cornering is poor use of my attention. Spending my $10 frivolously if you will :)

    That's my Fess-up

  7. Is it just me, or are the highsides we see in MotoGp today happening earlier in the turn than is say the days of 500's. Often before the apex towards the completion of the steering input

Examples that spring to mind -

Lorenzo at China last year, then again at Laguna this year

    Casey at Laguna this year

    Hayden at Sachenring this year

Anyone have any theories on this? Or perhaps want to tell me I'm imagining things..........
