  2. Nice Jason, but men call it Salmon not pink Where did you get the tire changing setuo from? Wouldnt mind getting one Remeber when changing the tires to make sure the DIRECTION ARROW is going the right way, I've had it happen twice where a shop fitted the tires in the wrong direction

  4. The tire in the picture is said to be a D211GPA, when clearly it is a D209GPA. The tire and the picture don't match. The post states it is NOT tearing, when clearly that is tearing. Then at the end of the post, rusty848 notes that "dunlop just come up with new hard front ,it should last longer,but right now its only available for AMA". Its true we came out with a newer front, but totally untrue that it was limited to only the AMA. The tire was made available right after the AMA race at Mid Ohio. Anyone ordering one was not turned away. All this is being talked about with riders from 2 different continents, regarding tracks they don't have in common (philip Island and Mid Ohio), and pictures that don't match statements. Its a masive comparing of apples to oranges. This is just another example of how an urban legend gets started. Bad reports, misleading reports of what is happening, backed up with pictures that are not the right ones. All that is missing is how it was George Bush's fault and you have yourself a great new story. Its no wonder riders get confused with all this incorrect and misleading information going around.   6. I think I was 8-9 and my uncle took me on his honda and scared the pants off me... I loved it!! Then a peewee 50cc @ 14 that a mate let me use and I pinned the throttle and ran into a tree. Mum said no bikes (Driving instructors for parents tend to pretty strict) and I learnt to surf instead. I kept wanting a bike and, I loved the fact that bikes could park, beat cars, and I 'spose the main one is bikes look cooler than a cars. 4 years later I left home got posted to the other side of the country and bought a bike, found out about track days a few years later and loved it even more so since I was 18 I've had one motorcycle in some form or another. I dont think I could handle not having one now it'd be like my daughter moving out of home or something
  7. Such lovely penmanship , BTW I was just 4 when you did that course . I like the fact the certificate shows your lap times get better, just shows even back then that Keiths systems worked. We dont get lap times recorded in Australia.

  9. Hi, I used the back of my hand and finger tips, I havent personally ridden on the pilots just the Q's. A bloke at the track had the Pilot's. I understand that they are different compounds, even the Q to the Q2 (which is now on the rear replacing the old punctured Q) and from normal street riding I can feel a marked diffrence in the Q2, definately 'tackier' than the old Q when on the street. Just need some track time on the Q2 now. Cheers
  10. As I am pretty much a tyre novice this may be common knowledge. I was at the track and was having a discussion about tyres, as we do. Two guys had the pilot powers ct2 and I have my Dunlop Q's. I am getting the Q2's as I got a puncture from a building screw left on the track which went really flat really quick in to a very fast corner which left me and my butt doing the 1 cent - dinner plate pucker but thats for another post. I found the Pilots ,straight of the track, to be really sticky/tacky whilst my Q's dont feel as sticky coming straight off the track or even with warmers on. He explained to me that the pilots rely on Chemical traction whilst some tyres will work from the mechanical process of heating up like the Q's. Just wondering if this could be explained a little better or if its correct. Thanks Dylan
  11. I think this is a great idea as I have just started using tyre warmers. I was a bit confused because I didnt know what tyres should have been HOT only that I usually ahd them a 30 psi cold, then when I came in off a cold wet track day the tyres hadnt changed much in temp like a 2-3 psi gain. I thought that as it was kinda wet and cold I wasnt riding the qualifiers hard enough? I asked some of the racers they say to lower the pressures to generate more heat, the tyre tech said 30/30 is fine and.....funnily enough I'm all confused again . I think a few easy ways to answer some pressure questions, may be to have a table (attached) with track/day temps and to have front and rear tyre pressures settings for cold and hot tyres, even have it for different tyre manufacturers I have plenty more new to tyre technologies questions so any help, specially from a Dunlop rep, would be awesome, Dylan SUGGESTED TYRE PRESSURE SETTINGS.pdf
  12. I just use a straw, bubble gum, and a good set of lungs!!! I dont really just an old foot pump and a good pressure gauge cause thats the bit that matters Crash they do have bent valve stems for easy access

  14. Eirik, I would put it to you to at least do level 1 and see if you actually learn anything, then you can see what we (the forum) are on about. I've only been riding since I was 5, so I dont have as much riding experience as you do; However, I always learn something new every time I'm on a bike whether road or track because I try to implement all the techniques that I have learned from Level 1&2. No matter how good you are you will always learn something...unless your Rossi . I've had mates who used to like dragging hard parts in fast out slow etc etc.... but not many of them are around because situations on the windy, tight, slippery roads beat them. I just wish they had had a chance to learnt some of the schools techniques. I suppose that if you don't want to detract from your riding experience and like lots of lean angle you could always find a roundabout
  15. Like I said before for the left turn at this track in particular, run out slightly wider, maintain the throttle and just before getting over that crest start to roll the throttle on. Be careful not to apex too early as this will make your exit difficult and you will have to back off the throttle as you will run very wide. If the bike is upright enough you can get on it hard coming down the hill and just running out to the white lines, usually where old mate had his highside. Obviously he panicked and chopped the throttle.....so dont chop the throttle. Remembering that this is the ONLY left hander on the track. N.ext ride day have a play with different lines see how you go and let us know

  17. Hi mate, I think maybe for your exit look further ahead increasing your wide view and not locking the near visuals ie to the ground. I think that maybe your not doing the three step properly as this all seems to be a visual problem.
  18. Hi Troy, I was having alot of trouble with that corner as well and also not cracking the throttle until I was over the crest. I found that if I let the bike run wide then hook back in I could crack the throttle, not wide open but more a very gradual roll on or a maintanence type throttle, before the crest that I would get better drive off the turn. The bike will feel slightly light going over the top, but if your hanging off the bike and elbow out to the apex the bike feels more upright personally it gives me more confidence to get on the throttle earlier. I also found that If I look through the marshalls rather than on the apex of the corner it keeps me looking down the track rather than looking out of the corner and running wide. Just wondering if you have done other tracks? Check out some footage of some guy at broadford, just listen to the throttle. I'm out at winton on sunday so if your there come say G'day Dylan

Hi Hotfoot, I use the tyre down ties down the rear and is great I'm also looking at a getting a front trailermate stand, locks in the front wheel, guess it will still need to be tied in to stop it bouncing out but no worries on suspension. I dont use anything other than one tyre down and one strap to lock in the front tyre and have driven this configuration from one side of Australia to the other (Perth to Melbourne). No straps on bars or frame. So many different variations out there but it all works
  20. I guess the other thing you need think about when riding your brakes into corners, because you say you have already preloaded your brakes, is the person riding behind you. Obviously the brakes lights are showing because the lever is depressed. In my opinion this would make the following rider think your slowing down making him set up for the corner earlier and maybe slower than they like, because the information they are receiving from your lights is incorrect. What I mean is seeing as most riding is using all available information visual skills etc this would feed wrong information to people behind. With regard to dragging 'hard bits' and 'throwing sparks' what happens if the road suddenly has a big defect in the surface like a big bump? Hard bits grab and stick and if pegs dont move they dig in leading tot a crash. I think that you have been really lucky so far that you havent had a worse accident than the two you already mentioned.
  21. I really only trailbrake on the track but on the road I dont. My reason is that if I am for example trailing the brakes going round a blind corner and something like a dead deer happens to be on the road, If your on the brakes already and you get a fright (SR's start firing) you'll probably grip your brakes as hard as you can the front will probably lock and tuck in and down you go. just my 2 cents worth
