  1. Thanks. No problem with the line. The book just seemed to make it seem like the constant radius arc was wrong. I realize that the hook option is available if I need to change my line for a pass etc. in that corner, or as I progress and up my speed even more to tighten my line.
  2. So in TOWT II page 59, there is a diagram showing a turn and then the path of travel of a hook and an arc. With a descriptor that you want to weight on the front to get the bite and turn action. Also getting on the gas to early starts the bike on a constant radius arc before you get it pointed I am trying to apply this in my head to turn 3 of VIR N. This is a very fast left hand corner into a short straight, that I normally don't slow for and definitely don't brake for this turn-thus I wouldn't get that bite and turn help. I can only guess that maybe a quick pause on acceleration would help get the turn and bite? Obvisouly the arc isn't as straight of a line, but if I maintain standard throttle and arc thru the turn, my lean angle won't change, and I should still be slightly accelerating thru the corner and keeping the 60/40. So is there an advantage in this turn to loading the front. What is the extra turning advantage in regards to this turn?

  4. Yeah, the GPS refresh rate isn't great. But for my novice rear end it does the job. Also the fact that I'm on a Buell 1125, GPS is about the only thing I can use. Most items don't interface well with our ECM, and since we are no longer in production most items don't support us. Track addicts aleast does the overlay on the gopro footage so makes a decent video.
  5. I was looking at the "Trackaddict" iphone app, it will overlay all the information on video(either gopro or iophone camera) and can connect to the can/bus either via plug/play or bluetooth. wouldn't show braking, but it would show slowing at least.
  6. When doing a single day, on my bike, is there any issue with running warmers between sessions?
  7. After not riding for most of the winter, I was very rusty, lower confidence, nerves etc. I think we need some more info about your issues and type of riding. Just got done with first of this season track days this past weekend. The first 2 sessions were horrible-I mean horrible- throttle control awful, reference points ######, etc i felt and looked like that guy going in circles in the parking lot in twist 2 video. Sat out the session After lunch, thought about what my goals were for the day, went out he next 2 sessions at about 60% working on points and throttle control. Slowly working up the speeds, pace and changing some points. By the last 2 sessions I was threading thru traffic no problem. The next day was I was able pick up from there and continue to pick up be pace. By the end of the weekend i got bumped to the advanced group with NESBA. So back it off some figure out where the issues are and work on those, then things will start to click again.
  8. just rewatched the section in twist 2 about suspension and acceleration. I was associating rear tire slipping under hard acceleration with weight transfer forward, whereas it was because of the stiffened rear suspension-due to rise-that caused the slipping.
  9. So if under hard acceleration the rear rises, I can make the assumption that weight transfers forward?
  10. Hayes will take it all, just not as soon as last year. Herrin was getting towed around the track, but even then he was taking areas like the bus stop different than hayes. I'm really hoping that Eslick, Carndenas, Herrin, and Hayes will be mixing it up come mid season when bike issues are sorted out. Pegram may even be in the mix now that he is getting support.

  13. Just started using stair climber, really works different muscles than the stationary bike. Going to start rotating between rower, bike, and stair climber.

  15. These cones are on the exterior of the track, are set up each day(possibly by someone different). While I don't think they are completely wrong. My thoughts are these: 1. they are not my RP, or timing points for my plan of that turn 2. they are set up by someone else that my have a completely different plan for the turn or the day as a whole 3. Ive actually been told by someone with one of the track organizations that they purposly move the apex cone and additional 4 feet into the turn, because they feel its safer that way 4. the track organizations Ive rode with in the beginner/intermediate levels have been focused on the riders "hitting the cones" i.e. specifically the turn in and apex cone. ESPECIALLY the apex cone. while I think that helps the beginner rider lean the track and line. it focuses to much on the apex and not the entire product of the turn. 5. the turn in cone may be close to where a good turn in should be, its not mine, its not on the track, its on the exterior of the track, drawing attention in the wrong way. 6. The cones may be a good way to assist with finding my own RP's for those turns, but I don't feel they should be used as the RP's as prescribed by the coaches/organizations. These are a few of the points bouncing around in my head. I can think of a couple of turns that by using the "cones" has you leaned over way to long in the turn. Had to get these on paper, now back to work. Really NEED to get back on the track, winter is way to long.
  16. Thanks for the replies. I have to unprogram my head from the track organizations I've rode with saying hit this cone and that cone. While they were good reference points in the beginning now they are messing me up, I need my own reference points, and timing points. Working on digesting twist ii, and soft science and its starting to click.
  17. I had to put a piece of painters tape on my tank with "GP" written on it for the first week or so of street riding when I made the change. Stop lights and any emegency braking were where old habits kicked in.

  19. I'm not good at motivating myself at the gym, so I've found that there are a couple of great classes at my gym: 1st a strength and conditioning class, 2nd is a core/abs class. Both classes I'm typically the only guy in them, but I don't care there are some cuties my wife included For the conditioning class, I have to double up weight bars/dumbbells typically because they only have weights up to 20lbs, but its high reps with medium weight, and typically goes squats/lunges/ Into upper body/back to squats lunges the. Ends with core work. The core class is the Les Mills cxworx and it changes every 4-5 weeks or so. With the conditioning class my typical heart rate is up around 155, and I'm 40, I'm not worried about adding bulk, just conditioning and strengthening what I have. So I do 2 set/cond classes, 3 core and another 3 hours broke up on the stationary bike. Been on this routine for about 2 months and am starting to feel the results!
  20. I'm still having issues wrapping my head around a couple of points, because I think that I am associating max lean angle with the turn apex. So as long as at the turn in, I have set my steering properly and won't have to adjust it thru the turn(i.e. adjusting lean), I can start getting back on the throttle almost immediatly? via throttle control rule 1. But if I mess up my turn in, and continue to add lean angle during the turn, then I cannot(shouldn't) add throttle until I've hit max lean angle for the turn? So in a medium speed turn, say thats constant radius, in simpllified terms the order would be: Brakes on, brakes off(throttle off), turn in(set fine), crack on the throttle progressively and gradually increasing to the drive out.
  21. A off the shelf suit with a couple of hundred dollars in alterations is another option. It was the little things about the way the suit fit that I needed fixed: small wrists allowed suit to ride up, shortened Calfs to fit in the boots better, bunched up at the knees. Etc. was still cheaper than a custom suit. Didn't have to have it let out at all, just taken in. A buddy had to have his let out a little and you couldn't even tell where tr alteration was done. Definitely have someone that knows about motorcycle suits like lizzy or barnacle bill do the alterations.
  22. At njmp we got a pit lane suite, they were great. I called for the reservation and got a cheaper rate than what they offered online. Don't know about vir, and their rates.

  25. Have rode with with both TPM and NESBA(last season) Will be out there April 6,7,8 doing S,S,N combination with NESBA, as my season opener. CSS May 13,14. Then back again on June 1,2 for N both days with NESBA.
