For purpose of discussion, the term "Hook Turn" was really referring to a Keith Code defined Hook Turn, which I can assure you (and everyone), is *NOT* related to 'backing it in'.
Book a level III and you'll understand a CSS Hook Turn.

Already took yours and Kevin Kane's advice and I'm booked on 2 day camp in Almeria in April next year, just getting fed up waiting for it to come around.

A hook, also called "Backing it in" is going in way hot, chopping the throttle and slamming the bike to max lean simultaneously then gapping it wide open to break the rear end loose. It hooks around and you G out of the turn with a wheelie. I've done this a time or two but, it was unintentional. I just got lucky. To do it on purpose is a very advanced technique. As you can probably tell by the description, If the timing is not perfect,things can go horribly wrong in an instant.
Whooooaa, won't be trying that technique in a hurry, think it's best I wait to be taught it.
Must admit though I have already slid into a corner by going into hot and didn't go down, just got lucky I suppose.
Can't wait to learn some more technique's though the search for skill and knowledge must go on and on

The final reason is as I suggested above. Any subsequent school(s) you attend for Level IV allows you to focus on areas that you want to address (or re-address); Level IV is where you fine tune any or all of what you learned in the three previous levels. I did Levels II & III in the two day camp and it was da bomb!

Hi Kevin,
I took your advice and I'm now booked on the 2 day camp at Almeria in April, just can't wait for it to come round.
Winter is just too long for us bikers although I still ride in winter months it's no where near as enjoyable although it does help with smoothness and throttle control.

Thanks for the advice I have only just turn Level 1 at Silverstone but no more schools until next year when I plan to do Level 2,3 & then a 2 day camp to do Level 4
So I'll have to wait til next year for Level 3

I have heard this spoken about a couple of times at Track Days
What is a hook turn, how is it done and what are the benefits, it must be good because it helped Luthi to his win at Phillip island recently
Any advice would be appreciated

Trying to weight the outside peg is not the solution to a spinning rear tire IMHO. Proper use of the throttle is or better yet picking the bike up into the slide.

In response to your quote I'm already picking the bike up when it spins up but I also apply pressure to the outside footpeg. Does this have any advantage or should I just concentrate on picking it up and modulating the throttle.
I did Level 1 at Silverstone on 6th October and I'm eagerly awaiting the dates for next year as I plan to do 2,3 & 4.
Now I'm looking forward to the pick up drill to make sure I am doing it correctly.

From One Hammer to another
I recently had the same problem and did the same as you I chopped the throttle and the bike threw me out of the seat, luck was on my side and I stayed on but only just. So I spoke to one of the fast group boys and it reminded what I had already read so my advice is this.
If the bike starts to slide just check the throttle if you are on the way out of the turn you are right that you can weight the outside footpeg, I also stand it up by counter steering to get it on the fat part of the tyre as soon as I can and gradually open the throttle.
So far this has meant I have been able to spin the rear a bit without losing the drive out of the turns.
Don't forget to much spin = no drive and loss of speed, it's a fine line and can only be achieved with good throttle control.

I have just booked on Level 1 for 6th October and wanted to know what it was like, I did the rapid skills Part 1 & 2 last year at Cadwell Park but i still feel I,m too slow into the corners and body position is a bit off.
If anybody else has had reservations about the school before going, drop us a line as I,m dead nervous

It will take four days to go from Level 1 to Level 4.
You have to start at Level 1 as that is where everybody starts from regardless of ability.
I have completed Level 1 and I'm booked on a 2 day Camp to do Level's 2 & 3 as you get more track time on the camp's plus your riding is recorded so you can see where your going wrong and you get to use the lean and slide bike.
I'm doing it this way because of advice I received on this forum, once I've done the camp I will be doing a couple of track days to try out all the technique's then I will book up for my Level 4.
Level 4 is designed around any techniques your struggling with so you need to try out the technique's to know which one's you are having trouble with before going on Level 4.
How long you take in between Level's depends on how you feel your doing and how much you can afford at once.
