My z1000 is a 2003, it hasn't been to the track. Mine I call my sanity bike, because when I started trying to crack on, it would turn into a bouncy castle and tell me to slow down. The newer ones are supposed to be very good though. Everything I have read about them seems to rate them around or slightly higher than the current speed triple. Given that I think that machine is really sweet, perhaps that tells you something.
If it helps, I read an awful lot of material about current machinery. If you give me an idea of what kind of riding you want to do, I am happy to try to give some suggestions.

But which would you exclude, and why? I liked them all for various reasons, just curious as to the opinions of others

Hmm, there seems to be a Kawasaki theme here
scotchgit, being a Zed Head is complete okay and I wouldn't mind having the vast majority of the bikes you've had!

Strange as it may seem, I have been toying with the subject of replacing a v max and an r6. Guessing some street riding , and some track. I think the z1000, newer version could be good for doing both, but a little frustrating on the track. Having said that, I know one of the uk magazine groups did do a couple of races on one and seemed to enjoy it.
The thought I came up with, was the triumph street triple. The handling is superb, comfortable on the street, lots of turn leverage, very sweet motor. All in all a great machine. Let me know what you think. This is working on the presumption that the naked aspect is important.
