  1. Hey guys, so I have been juggling the idea of getting a van as transport to and from the track and canyons. I have seen others loading their bikes in vans, and I want to know what I'm getting in before I make a purchase. So here are a few questions:

     

    1. What van do you recommend?

    2. How are you getting the bike in and out? (riding or pushing)

    3. What problems if any have you had with transporting in a van?

    It's very common to feel like you are hanging off more than you really are, and to feel like you are leaning more than you really are. Almost everyone I know who saw pictures of themselves cornering on the track for the first time was surprised at how little lean angle they were using, and how little they were off the bike.

     

    I assume though that we are talking about street riding. If that is the case, then I wouldn't encourage you to pursue lean angle just for the sake of it. As others have mentioned, if your technique is good then the only ways to increase lean angle is to use a poor cornering line, use poor technique, or to simply go faster. There is no good arguement for the first two, and the latter might be a poor idea too depending on the road conditions, traffic, speed limits, etc. Get thee to the track.

     

    +1 On getting to the track...I used to be concerned with getting more lean angle and getting, "HERO SCARS" (as Keith calls them). Now after going to CSS I am considerably faster and SMOOTHER, than my friends that are leaned over farther and dragging knee. By not leaning as far I am able to get on the gas earlier and much harder than before. Occasionally the knee does touch down but during those times I am so focused that by the time I realize it the bike is back upright and the corner is over....

  3. I attended CSS LVL 1-2 during the weekend of September 15 & 16 and I am trying to figure out what tire pressure was set when I brought my bike through tech...I was on a white Ducati 848. Tires used were Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa...<br style="color: rgb(28, 40, 55); font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px; background-color: rgb(250, 251, 252); ">Thanks Fred

     

    I remember your bike. I think we set you at 31 front 30 rear, cold. As I recall recommended track pressures for those tires are something like 31-34 front and 28-32 rear.

     

    How did you like those pressures? I haven't ridden on those but I've heard they have a softish sidewall and some folks run them on the higher side of the recommended pressures to get more feedback.

     

    I loved the pressure that was set, hence the reason that I was trying to find out exactly what it was. Now that I am beginning to understand the technical aspects behind riding things make a lot more sense. I have been running the same pressure from SOW and the my tires feel ok, I just wanted to know for a fact what the pressures were and work towards having a everyday riding pressure also. (what would you recommend) Also would it be safe to assume that my canyon riding pressure would be the same as my track?

    First off Cobie I would like to thank you guys for putting on a, not only informative but also very professional two days of instruction. During this past week I went back to our normal stretch of canyon roads...At one point in time my friends stopped me and asked if I could slow the pace down. The funny thing about it was, I wasn't going overly fast just carrying good corner speed thanks to "no brakes" and visual training. You guys were right, "the more information you take in the longer you have to react, thus the slower you feel you are going".

     

    On to my tires, I am running Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsas (180s in the rear).
