    Ok, in your words, what do you recall as the main point of knee to knee?

     

    Then, what do you recall as the point of hip flick? Whatever, little or much, just give an idea of what you got from those 2 (can be short).

    You sure you're not merging the two drills together there? Knee to Knee is for what? Is it possible, Hip Flick is for chicance's pre-empting second part of chicanes? If so, how would that work?

    Hi Bullet, I really can remember Knee to Knee, but am struggling with hip flick.

     

    In my work book hip flick comes after knee to knee. Is hip flick only to used with knee to knee ie. in the chicanes?

  3. I've just been flicking through my CSS work books. In my level 3 book I'm struggling to remember what was taught with the hip flick :(

     

    I remember the knee to knee well, to help with getting through chicanes and keeping the bike stable.

     

    However as much as I rack my brain I still can't remember!! I only did my Level 3 this year........Early onset senile dementia?? ;)

    This is true, but maybe not true for Donington, what's going on with that place?

     

    I'm still glad I went, albeit briefly to Cadwell. It is a lovely track, really narrow though :blink:

     

    @Jasonzilla, I woke up at 0230 and just couldn't get back to sleep. I was seriously considering not going at all. Too much nervous energy/excitement methinks.........

  5. So I went to Cadwell, wow what a track :o

     

    I didn't have a good day though. The night before I only managed to get 3 hours sleep, so I was cream crackered when I got to Cadwell.

     

    I didn't ride very well, I was rushing into corners and felt very tight on the bike - stiff back and shoulders :(

     

    I stayed until about midday and decided to call it a day. A bit of a shame, but I will go back to Cadwell next year.

  6. Hey Bullet,

     

    Cheers for replying. What I want to do is use the tracktime constructively, but I know I can't work on everything all at once.

     

    So I'm thinking Level 1 was about keeping the bike stable and throttle control. I would think that using 2 step would help as like you say I've never been to Cadwell. For me to use 2 step I would have to find RP's.

     

    Level 2 was a lot of visual stuff 3 step, wide view. Again these will need to be used/help with RP's at an unfamiliar track.

    I'm doing a trackday in a few days (Cadwell).

     

    I've not done one fow a while now nor have I been to Cadwell before. I want to practice what I have learned at the school, I've done levels 1, 2 and 3.

     

    I don't just want to ride around the track all day and not improve my riding, or focus on it, IYSWIM.

     

    What do you think would be the best thing/s to work on ie 2 step, quick turns etc??

    I had a great if knackering day and the track was excellent.

    When you say "inside knee" do you mean "inside of the knee", or the inside knee (i.e left knee in a left hander), or something else?

     

    May seem a minor point, but if there's been a misunderstanding there it would certainly make things harder than they need to be, so we'll just make sure.

     

    Yes mate inside of inside knee and inner thigh of inside leg.......So the way I understood what I was taught would be (for a left hand turn).

     

    • Press the left knee into the (left) tank scallop and use that knee inner thigh to slide my ass across the seat to the left.
    • So I'm pulling my ass left across the seat with my left leg.

    It feels weird for sure, but like Cobie said the alternative is to lift off the seat and unsettle the bike. Keep the bike stable, right?? ;)

  10. Ayup, I recently did my level 3 and whilst I enjoyed it and learned a lot, one thing has been bugging me.

     

    When sliding your arse (ass) across the seat what is the correct technique?

     

    I was told by my coach to;

     

    Press inside knee into the tank and use the inner knee/thigh to help slide my arse across in to position for the turn.

     

    Have I understood this correctly? I found level 3 very hard as I learned techniques that were alien to me and I'm not sure if I misunderstood this technique.

    Have you seen guys hanging off the bike, lots of lower body off, and then counterleaning with the upper? Even up to and including pro riders?

     

    Like Micky Doohans' style? or Tony Elias?

     

    @ Bullet - Yes Silverstone this Monday. On the South Circuit I think, I did 1 & 2 at Stowe with 'Badger' as my coach. Keith Codes' gonna be there you say? I'll bring my TOTW books for him to sign ;)

    Have fun, don't treat it as a trackday and listen to what the instructors tell you. I did my level 2 in the pi*sing rain. I felt that I learned more in the rain. It was a bit sketchy to begin with but once I got used to the back losing traction it was fine. I had a couple of front end slides (not nice), but this was due to poor throttle control.

     

    You'll have a great day and learn loads.

  13. A lot of what you learn in level three can be used on a supermoto. However, riding supermoto is really a mix of street bike and dirt bike riding techniques and body position and stuff varies from corner to corner.

     

    I have been riding a lot of Supermoto on my KX450 as of late and I used to ride a lot of motocross as well. I have found that on the SM I ride some corners roadrace style and some dirt bike style. Some tracks (like The Streets of Willow) I ride almost completely roadrace style and it is much faster. Other tracks like Adam's Go Kart track I ride almost completely dirt bike style.

     

    I think you would be best to rent one of our bikes and learn the road race style in Level three. A lot of what you will learn can be used on your SM later, but I think it would be easier for you to learn the road race stuff on a road race bike and then adopt it to the SM later, then to try to adjust what we would be teaching you on the fly to the SM.

    Thanks for replying. Yep I catch your drift. I've seen moto riders vary between knee down and leg out styles, I have never ridden one so I don't know how easy it is to lock onto the tank etc. Which is something that I believe is covered in level 3?

    I think using the schools bike would be the best option.

     

    I really would like to have the two bikes, the SP2 and a Supermoto, but I can't see that happening. In the UK the roads are so congested I feel more and more that a sportsbike is a waste on the road.

    Have you had a look at your suspension?

     

    I had a fiddle with the settings, made it feel worse, so put back to standard and stepped away from the adjusters ;)

    I am considering getting rid of my SP2 (RC51) and getting a Supermoto. The reason being I fancy a change. I ride mostly on the road the SP2 is wasted really and it is really uncomfortable, chews tyres like crazy, drinks fuel...........It has 'character' though ;)

     

    What I want to know is do the CSS techniques transfer to Supermoto's?

     

    I appreciate two step, three step, wide view, countersteering will be applicable to all bikes, but what about Level 3 techniques?

     

    From what I understand Level 3 is covers body position, I've done levels 1 & 2. On level 2 I didn't get to go on the lean bike, as it was raining (bloody UK weather :rolleyes: ).

     

    I aim to book my Level 3 this year, but I don't know if I would be wasting my/the schools time if I turned up on a Supermoto? Of course I could always hire a school bike..........

     

    In an ideal world I would be able to afford both bikes, but alas it is not possible.

    One could argue that could be just "The Bayliss Factor".
