  1. Hi guy's I've just dropped in to pick your brains! I am currently racing an '03R6 yada yada yada (not too fast) . Any way I have been racing with the oem seat and was wondering what the move to next to nothing at all would be like, what do all the fast guys use......bit of plastic with minimal foam? ALSO I am seeking advice and comments on HUDs and thumb operated rear brakes. Thanks for taking the time... ...one more thing, I am looking for cheap race exhaust and slide stops for my YZFR6 2003 inj. Well used would be nice, I have little money, I am a peasant Deer and Cattle farmer from down under
  2. 1) If you mean they are holding the clutch in the whole time they are braking, downshifting and then letting the clutch out slowly just before the corner... Then I think this would require a lot of attention on how you release the clutch and would be very difficult to do smoothly. You would have to pay a lot of attention on the clutch and I would think other aspects of you corner entry would suffer. Thats the one. I guess it mayhave become less neccasary with slipper clutches and cush drives making things abit smoother in recent years. I have, by accident done it and found it wasn't too bad. I had changed my shift to race shift and had made an error while shifting, resulting in me coasting into the corner while I got the gear right, I didn't seem to find it any slower going into the corner but my drive out was late on, and I guess thats what racing is about - get on that gas early! thanks for you comments, sorry about my spelling...
  3. I am racing a R6, in a bottom of the heap class, no tyre warmers. I have been doing the counter steer push-push on the bars on the warm up lap before the start (weaving) to try and get abit of heat in the tyres. But I have been told off for being dangerous and that this will only result in a crash and not add any real heat to my tyres at all. True?
  4. OK, stick to the basics, its safe and proven. But often once understood, advanced and fancy techniques become part of the basics. Saying that, I can't race for ######, but I am learning. One thing my coach has mentioned (but not coached me on) is that some guys are holding the the clutch in while braking and changing down for the corner much later. The theory is more mid corner speed, and better feel from the brakes with less chance of rear chatter during braking. What do you think? This is not what I do, but I am doing alot of things that I never used to do and I am going faster than ever (which is still pretty slow!). P.S. You have a great site and it is handy to be able to ask dumb questions without seeing anyone roll their eyes or muffle their chuckles. Thanks.
  5. This like a good place to improve my time with only a small cost, if any. Can anybody help me? I have a '99YZFR6, and would like to change the shift pattern to race shift, I would also like to do this to my other bike, a DR 200. Have also heard the saying, head down change down, head up change up...use this to remeber the change to race shift pattern, rather than the change down:push down, change up:pull up that we all learned on.
  6. Does anyone initiate a slid by moving weight forward on the bike by applying pressure from their arms onto the tank, I read about it but thats about it?
  7. I have been talking to top riders about using the rear brake and this is one point that they will use the rear brake to slow the spinning rear and regain traction - no change in throttle, just drag the rear brake a little to gain traction/control.
  8. How can I get a better qualifying time? I can only qualify mid field (seventh 1.33min 3.03km track) but finnish first @ 1.23min. I also get out braked by everybody, but pick them up on the exit. I've only started racing, so the only thing that I have alot of is inexperiance. I guess my question is how can I mentaly push myself harder to qualify better?
