  1. Armor All is great. KIDDING! When I'm helping my friends who race in the pit we brush off the rocks and rubber before putting the tire warmers on. I live in Arizona and it rains so rarely that I think if anyone suffered from the oil and dirt on the roads, it would be us, but nothing. And I've gotten chain lube on my tires plenty of times, and nothing. It's a complete non-issue, unless you saturate the tire. A little spray won't do anything.

    ok cool

  2. In twist of the wrist there is a section on braking. One of its subsections is on rear braking which is small. One of the sentences sums up the subsection pretty good by saying "Many riders and racers have given up using the rear brake for hard braking". To sum it up the reason is that the rear brake is more tricky and its miss use can cause hopping & less control. One of the center piece themes for keiths teachings is obviously that if a rider wants to ride more effedient one must understand and take responsibility in the area of weight transfers, throttle control and braking. Well with that foundation in mind THEN mastering and using in conjunction the right amount of back brake would allow a rider to transfer weight to the rear where you DO need more of it at times. Doing everything you can in chasing that desired 60/40 weight ratio. Guys that are the fastest and also one with their bike I would guess DO use the rear brake and quit often! They most likely use it to not only slow faster but also to not transfer ALL of the stoping forces to the front.

  3. F4--I don't think there is much you want to put on the tread. Even if you get something else on them, it will wear off pretty fast (unless it really soaks in, and that would not be good). But you wouldn't want to use gasoline or contact cleaner or anything like that.

Best to take a little care when lubing (but I think we've all gotten a little lub on the tire), and hopefully it's just on the sidewall.

For just looking good, Silkolene makes a prduct called Pro Prep, can use that on the sidewalls, we like it.

    Thanks

  4. If you watch the DVD Faster they mention that they like to press down the the pegs to give extra weight/traction to the rear in the turn. But again they dont mention if one peg is pressed down on harder than the other or if they are both pressed down on equal. Pressing down more on the outer peg you would think would want to stand the bike up. Also in some pictures it looks like some guys take their leg that is dragging knee completely off the peg?? Anyone else notice that?

  5. Tried on a couple suits, 2 piece and 1 piece. The 2 piece was fine but the 1 piece was really tight in the crotch when I stood straight up. I am 6'2 weigh about 155 pounds, tried on a 40 and a 42. I know these suits are made to fit more for sitting but when I stood straight up it was very uncomfortable. I think the average guy wearing a 40/42 is more like 5'10" or so. How do yours fit? Is this normal? Do they stretch considerably? Do you prefer a 1 or 2 piece?

I am 5'7" at 145 and have a 1pc size 48 (Eur) which fits pretty snug when standing, but on the bike it's completely neutral with nothing bunching or tugging anywhere. A friend of mine is 6'3" and got a 2pc with the pants in a tall size which helps in length but the jacket is roomy around his mid section to get the length he needed. A 2pc is nice to be able to take off the jacket at the track in between sessions on hot days. Just make sure it's comfortable in the bike position- you don't want to spend any of your "attention budget" on distraction from gear.

Maybe I should try on bigger size like a 48. I mean for how much leathers cost I want it to fit excellent!

  7. Do any of you guys clean your tires with any certain product? I am not talking about something to make them shinny and just look good. I mean to clean any oil and stuff on them that can affect traction. Sometimes riding around on the street you drive through a patch or stream of it on the road. Also yesterday I was cleaning and lubing my chain and got some of that stuff on the outer edges of the tire. Has this happened to any of yal? So what can you clean tires with?

  8. Assuming tires are warm, and lean angle is the same, what effect does entrance speed have on the tires sliding out. In other words, lets say I can go into a slow 2nd gear turn at full lean with the throttle off, can I go into a 4th gear turn at the same lean angle with the throttle off and not worry about the tires slidding out?

Doesnt keith always say to maintain throttle control? So why shut it off?

  9. Tire flexion builds heat.

Less pressure increases flexion and increases heat. Higher pressure reduces flexion and reduces heat.

In any case, typical street riding won't build enough heat anyway. That's why I recommend not running track tires on the street. It's basically pointless. Unless you are pushing hard enough to be dragging your knee, you won't build or maintain enough heat to activate a track compound. You just wear out your tires faster.

racer, what do you consider to be track tires?? Just slicks? What about corsa III's? or 2ct's? Do you think those 2 are good to ride on the street ?
