Stroker
I have noticed some guys in moto3 and in the 250 class in general take their left hand off the bars and tuck it in during the straights. Why is this? Are there any benefits?
khp
Less wind drag.
Stroker
Nothing other than this? Also i wonder how much difference it makes?
Hotfoot
Wind drag is the biggest factor at top speed on those bikes, and they are narrow, so every little bit of tucking in helps.
Jasonzilla
If you look at the Harley's that race in AMA, they do it also. It's obvious there. I'm going to have to watch a race. I watch them all the time but haven't noticed it in Moto 3. I'd guess the fairings would be designed so they wouldn't have to do that. I know with the Harley's they're unfaired, so it makes sense. Good eye.
Stroker
I have noticed this not only in moto3 but many championships involving 250's or similar low HP bikes.I have even seen this in the Kawasaki Z800 cup!!
tmckeen
The less power the bike's make , the bigger the difference aerodynamics make, it's pretty common when watching moto 3 for the lead pack to swap places down the straight every lap due to drafting, the effect it has in MotoGP is considerably less pronounced

Doesn't knee dragging produce the same wind drag effect?
