Cobie Fair
Has anyone got experience of Penske shocks? I am getting this for my ZX9R to replace my worn stock item. I have been told they are very good, any opinions? Not much data recenlty on them, so only reason I'm responding is i have a 9R also. I have an old Fox shock on it, working fine, and i did get a fork kit from GP Suspension, Dave Hodges in Oregon. The fork kit works very, very well. Shameless sponsor plug: we have been happy with the Elka shocks, something to consider. best, Cobie
Rick448
The Penske shock is ordered and i'll report on it when it is fitted. I have just picked up my forks after being resrung for my weight (ohlins) and revalved and rebound needles replaced. Cant wait to try it out. What model9R do you have Cobie? I have an E1 model and have also raised the rear 10mm with the ride height adjuster, this has speeded up the steering and hopefully the suspension upgrades will improve the slightly harsh ride and bouncyness at the rear. E1. Right, I don't know on my 9R, which in the series it is. It's a '98. Will and I have almost the same bike, thought I think he got a later frame when he put his back together and raced it. We also raised the rear, it will help a lot. Haven't ridden it much lately, but it's a nice all-round bike. C
Rick448
My E1 is a 2001 i think the first where 2000. It has the twin lights, I would think yours is a C1 or C2. Here is a pic or two of mine so you can see.

DC_in_SD
I run a Penske 3-way on my CBR.. I've had VERY good interaction with Penske. They custom built and sprung my shock specifically to my weight in gear and were very quick to deliver.

Red Duke Rider
I think Penske's are the best. I run one on every one of my bikes (Duke II, VFR8700, and Honda ST1300). There are a bunch of Penske dealers around or you can deal directly with Penske themselves (deal with Shane Sweigert at their PA offices). You'll be dealing with people in the good ole US of A that speak English BTW. One of the beauties of a Penske shock is that you can add on to it as your pocket book will allow. You can start off with the Sport shock which has rebound damping adjustment, length adjustment, and of course spring preload adjustment. Those run about $600. You can later add a remote reservoir with compression adjustment for a few hundred dollars more and finally build it up to a top of the line shock with the double compression adjustment (high and low speeds). Also, springs that fit Penske's are available from the motorcycle suspension shops for $99.95 for a Hyperco spring or do as I do and order your Hyperco spring from a race car suspension shop for $66.95 (Hoerr Racing Products - www.hprworld.com). Penske's can be switched from one bike to another simply by having the bottom shock attachment changed and the shock re-valved (and possibly a new shaft to change the shock length) for the new bike. If you ever decide to get rid of your bike you'll have no trouble selling a Penske on FleaBay.
asphaltscraper
On my 675 I have a Penske double clicker shock and the 20mm front end kit and I absolutely love it. The whole bike feels smoother in it's responses to bumps and there is so much more adjusment that I can make versus the stock set up. It took a little tweaking to get the right spring rate as we tried it stiffer for Barber and a little softer for Pocono and Mid Ohio and I definitely seem to favor the lighter rate spring, the bike feels very compliant.
