Good points, both of you.
I've spent so much of the last year's traveling (and we were raising kids) street bike didn't get enough use (got tired of dead batteries and clogged carbs).
Might be time for a new street bike...I do like the F-800 (wish they made a 1000, a bit more torque and get up and go).
Maybe a thread on what's a popular street bike...

Good responses, both.
Apollo: If you are interested we can have a look at those crashes, see if there is a theme that could be addressed (unless it has been already)?
I do think the body position factor is a big one in this. In some cases riders have liked one side more than the other, and hung off more on that side--at times too much. And what is too much?
-
I don't know this a big issue, but what tracks have you ridden? (sorry, I don't recall your riding history). In other words, left or right-handed tracks?
-
Pretty sure we had covered this a while earlier, but I'm interested to see any new comments on this. So, any skill level rider, please do let us know what turn you prefer (if you do prefer one over the other).

Jeremy, glad you are posting! I was just curious if had been to a school, we could refer to some of the material if you had.
Back to your question: if the counter steering is done, what will make the bike lean over more? If you want to tighten the corner, what makes the line tighter, with the bike leaning over more?

Hope you had a great time. Did you get your daughter out there too?
We had a beautiful day today and decided to ride for a few hours... Yes, it felt really really good. My wife decided to take her bike out as well.
So nice to be in the moment on two wheels.
We made it out, about 2 hours north of LA in the desert. Had a great time, daughter loved it--asking about going again this coming weekend!

I have consistently ridden above my skill level and/or the road conditions because I loved the imagined ability to control the bike at the limit of adhesion and/or cornering clearance more than I feared the risks. The result has been a multitude of accidents and a significant amount of injuries, some that are lifetime bothers. Now I do not find the same pleasure of riding on the limit, especially when visibility is limited, although I still enjoy throwing sparks every now and then.
Had a few close calls in the canyons...really didn't care for that! I get enough time on racetracks that there isn't much interest in being silly on the street.
But the few times I ride in the dirt...I really need to wear all the gear (and I do :)).
Best,
Cobie

I'm not riding much, but I've started to spend some time cleaning up the garage to have some workspace for the bikes as well as started trying to exercise more to get in physical shape, which should help with riding as well.
Good use of your time (doing a bit of the same :))

I trust my own ability to moderate my hooliganism, it’s the other people out there on public roads that I’m more fearful of. I might not be able account for their actions.
That said, you’ve got me thinking about risk/reward - my mind, body and soul could really use some happy moto freedom.
I'm SOOOO looking forward to getting on my dirt bike tomorrow! Hope you get some moto time in soon

Hi Jeremy,
Just to verify, you have not done a school with us, is that correct?

Sounds good, both of you guys.
You both mention being a bit reticent to get too crazy (and get hurt). Responsible fellows! But (being part hooligan) I will ask how often do you boys get banged up? Could a little hooliganing (unlikely an actual verb) be good enough for the soul to be worth the risk?
I've got one friend (very good rider) but knows he has no self-restraint, and so won't go dirt riding with me. Do you boys fall in that category, or just generally responsible fellows.
Best,
Cobie

Anyone doing anything riding related in the downtime? I've been threatening to dirt ride, should happen this weekend...finally. And ideally taking my daughter to ride, first time--looking forward to it.
So, anyone else? Polishing the bike? Doing upgrades? Watching old races? Re-reading Twist? Telling lies to your pals? Hanging out on forums?

And welcome!

Nice bike...and welcome!

Hi again (I think)
Joined this forum back in 2012 but didn't know I hadn't posted before.
Maybe just looking and searching advice etc.
Riding since 1976 but I did my first CSS (1 & 2) with Keith in 1996 at Phillip Island.
I did CSS 2 again last month (Dec 2019) and will do L3 sometime this year. Lots has changed, the basics are the same but getting so much older with bad habits creeping in and a general body slowdown I thought I'd do it all again.
Great people at the school and lots of fun so I'm looking forward to meeting a few of you there. I'll be at the Phillip Island Classic this weekend and another track day Monday.
Cheers.
I'm jealous that you are getting some track days!
I'd should have been at that school in '96 if Keith was there...

I'm not going to respond (we are already e-mailing), but I am interested in what others have to say on this--good question.

It's becoming a missile through a house or rock wall that grabs my attention. I admire the _____ outta those boys, but like the guy that free climbed El Capitan...not even vaguely interested.

I'm pretty lazy, I like the F-800, probably even with saddle bags. Pretty impressive all round bike. Would love more power, like a 1000 version, so I can be more lazy and not have to shift much :).
Failing that...the single R (1000) is a sweet ride.

Quartararo, you can see he often keeps both legs into the tank under braking. I hope he de-thrones Marquez.

A few years back we were at Laguna Seca after WSB, and I asked Leon Camier about this. His comment was that it was harder to keep the weight off the bars, didn't like that, but it did keep the back end from coming up as much.

I get stressed out watching this...

Looking for another place to ride this weekend. I think there are a very few that are open...in SoCal. We can socially distance, no one has to distance-shame us (if that isn't a term already, will be shortly).

I'm jealous. Just heard that some friends rented a track in AZ, 12 of them total, had the gate locked after they were all in, and got a track day in!
I can't even go ride my dirt bike. (Do I sound like I'm whining--I am!).

Gorman is closed...really? Looking for another place, heard Wagon Wheel is still open. I think that's BLM land. Any one fancy some dirt riding, maybe April 11? I don't think Mayor Garcetti can turn the power off out there...
Right or left?

Apollo,
Good summary and description of what has happened. In this instance, I've some ideas, but to drill down into this in a bit more detail, better that we just talk, or even skype. I'm in the office this week (except Thursday), pretty flexible, let me know if you want to chat.
