quickbuck Posted October 3, 2010 Report Posted October 3, 2010 Hi all, Just completed level 1 and 2 at Hampton Downs last Thursday and Friday. Had a blast! Learned lots.... Well, aligned lots really. Jason was my coach for both days, and was fantastic. Anybody wondering if they should do CSS? I say, you can't really afford not to! It is the best performance mod you can do to a motorcycle.... and one of the cheapest! It is also a mod that ladts forever.... Cheers. QB. Quote

QB your amazing corner speed on that Ninja 250 will rise to an even greater level when you do Level 3, can't wait to see you working that part of your riding, and Luke I got to see you hammering everything down beautifully for the 2nd day, great the weather let you get some of those great laps in then even if it wasn't for the full session, great riding, and yep, as Adam said, your comments to me on the morning of day 2 about your legs were right on - you're using the right muscles! The suspension isn't in need f a service after all Oh, and kiwi, I will not hesitate to give you a yell if I ever need one.... I already put the word out to about 200 people at work Jase, you really think my corner speed is fast? Well, let me tell you.... Actually that leads me into my past riding experience, like bullet wanted: Age 6, I got to sit on the tank of my dads brand new Honda XL125 Farm bike. I quickly learnt how to twist the throttle, and pull in the clutch, and use the front brake and turn the bike. Dad provided the balance. 6 months later a sidecar was installed, and I was allowed to ride it with my 5 year old brother as the swinger! Rode it as a two wheeler later in my 8th year.... and about the same time we got a Honda CT90 as well. The bikes took us to all sorts of mad places our parents never really knew where... Shingle pits, rivers, etc. See we lived in a rural area. At 17 I got my first road bike. It was 5 years old, and had 20000k on it. It was a Honda 2 Stroke Triple. I won't mention the name, or something really bad will happen to the site or something! Had that for a couple of years before I traded it for a cage. Same time I joined the RNZAF. Had the cage for 6 months before the bike bug hit back. Got a CBR400 Aero. That ended 3 days later in a slide on a wet slippery road on the coast...... Didn't realise what really happened for years! Next bike was another CBR400 Aero. Had that for years and years. Did loads of riding on it, and looking back I was known to ride it really quickly around the tarmac and track, but there was some parts of my riding that i was lucky to get away with..... That bike ended when I got run over by a 44 tonne truck.... He simply didn't see me when he was making a right hand turn, and I was gong straight through (Equivalent to a Left turn if you ride on the right). Smashed my leg up pretty bad, and was lucky to survive. After a year off, I got another bike. This time a 1998 GSX600F. By this time it was 2001. I got a posting to Auckland. 300 Miles from my home base. I commuted on the 600 every second weekend for a year. I also attended a few motorcycle rallies on it.... My partner, who was a fantastic pillion decided this riding thing looks easy, so decided to give it a go. We got a 2003 Suzuki GSX250 Invader for her to learn on. I taught my partner the basics, and she was away....... After a few years I got my current CBR 600F. It is a 1992 model, and it still goes very well. I attend many track days and training courses at Manfeild (in Feilding New Zealand), and always get asked what mods I have done to it.... Answer is NIL. It has a Kirker pipe on it, and that is it. I have also got an after work job for a local bike importer. He need them all run after being reassembled. So I got very good at jumping from one bike to another and trying them out. As my job is an aircraft technician a couple of guys asked me if I would be a mechanic for the race team they were starting. We called ourselves Team Air Force Racing, and are doing quite well at a club level. The Team is hitting the National level in the new year. This is where I decided to still fly the flag at the club level...... I used to borrow the wife's GSX250 and go out on group rides... and keep up! So, I decided to enter the 250 class, and see what happens........ Oh, somewhere back in the 90's I did a bit of bucket racing. Ironically enough it was on an XL125! Bucket racing started in the 80's when a group of Air Force lads got some farm bikes, and stripped them down, worked the engines, and raced them around cones on the tarmac on the Air Force base.... And that adds up to 33 years.. (or is that 33 lots of 1 years experience) Sorry, but you did ask Quote

Sorry, but you did ask God that takes me back. I actually couldn't ride when I was smaller, but a mate of mine had a Honda Cub C90, and we used to run around all over the place hooning around, jumping it, and generally getting into trouble. I was absolutely terrified the first time I got on one of those. Your post made me have really funny and fond memories of that time as kid man. Thanks.
