Nice recovery!!!!!! Would have been great for the slide/catch/slide/catch to be on that video! Though having said that, just reading the event was enough to get the heart going! I'd suggest the tire isn't the only item that got soiled in those few seconds!
+1, nicely done.

Not a physics guy, but think of it in terms of load/weight. If you exceed the weight/load the tire can handle, it will push.

Good job on getting 10th! It sounds like you had a great weekend.

Backing it in was a bit of a fad a few years ago, but not much of that happening now in road racing. I think it takes a bit of attention off of aspects that are more important, like maybe front wheel traction at turn in, and also how quickly can you turn a bike in if you are backing it in. Not at area I'm expert at, haven't done any Supermoto to speak of.

I couldn't understand what was going on with Melandri. When he finished last year he wasn't particularly good on the technical OR point and shoot tracks. That probably means it's him and not the bike.
Simoncelli needs to get a move on. He's done well on the literbikes already.
I'm already excited about next year with all the potential moves. Rossi on the Ducati would be a dream for Italians.
Italy would go nuts.

Cobie,
Yeah, we have two little boys 2.5 and 4.5 years old. So a couple more years before I get them some bikes
I have a feeling once I get to the track, Palomar will seem like a lot less fun. In fact, it is only mildly fun now, trying to ride at 60%-70% and leaving enough attention left over for sand, other vehicles, etc.. just becomes stressful. The chance to focus 100% of my attention on my riding in a controlled environment is something I look forward to. If it is half as fun as I anticipate I am going to have to figure out how to make it a "family outing" to head up to Rosamond for the day
The guys at BMW North County are great, super low key, great atmosphere. Mike the owner is there all the time, and they have a small tight staff. I believe one of their guys is one of the faster club racers at Willow, but his name escapes me at the moment.
I will definitely stop by and say hello.

Excellent Tom, look forward to meeting you. I have 2, 9 (girl) 14, (boy). She is more interested in riding than he is!

Hi Scatter,
This aspect of the shoulders has a few pieces to it: for one, how is the lower body being anchored, this can have a huge effect on where the upper body ends up. One point Bullet was going for was. if the shoulders are not into the turn a bit, then will this make it harder to look into the turn?
This can be a bit hard to describe clearly, and in fact we spend a bit of time on this very subject, in virtually all the levels.
Have you done any of the schools at this point? We might be able to connect it to what you got trained in there.

do they have women's suits as well?
We don't have any women specific suits, but haven't had any real issues so far---granted, won't look like a fashion show though

Hi Eric,
Best bet for weather would be to come to the Streets of Willow Springs in Mar/April--great track, its in the desert, virtually never rains there (been going there since 1982). Some of those dates are already sold out, or close to it, so best to contact the office asap on that, just check on the dates you are thinking of, they can tell you where they stand.
We have one low bike, the F800S, with a lowered seat, that's one option. We can lower one of the S1000's, just haven't gotten to that yet. Again, when you contact the office, let them know, so we can work that out, get her assigned to that low bike.
Best,
Cobie
ps--here is the contact info: 800-530-3350 or Whitney@superbikeschool.com

Hi Nic,
For sure you will be able to get some good advice on your bike, and what/how to set it up. The material in the level 1 class will also show you how to get a consistent result from the bike, so you won't chase your tail with suspension changes.
Best,

Good stuff Scott, hope to see you at a CSS out here.
If you're picking up information from the forum to try then you might find it useful to make a plan of the changes to make, and pick only one change to make per ride.
Trying to put more than one change together at the same time can make it difficult to work out what worked well and why.
P.s. If you keep the pace lower than normal while trying new things you have more attention free to focus on the change, feel free to use this forum to discuss.
All the best, Jason
JW,
Sound advice mate, you should post more

Tom,
I think you are a better salesman than I am! Well, I haven't gone that long with out getting some toys, so 15 years is a long time to wait--have kids?
Back on topic - you are going to get spoiled at the track in a big hurry. Palomar/Crest/Rock Store is fun, but the track is a whole different animal .
Let me know how you like the guys at Escondido, like to know about the local dealers.
Come say hello when you get to the track.
Best,

MCN conformed they will be running a split grid of 1000 and 800. 1000's performance will be capped to the level of the 800's.
Any specifics on how that is going to be capped? Maybe I better get up on MCN, see what's up.

We tyipcally don't setup the bike for each student. We have a setup that is kinda middle of the road on all the bikes. This is the way we have been doing it for years with all the rental bikes and the settings we use work pretty well for most riders.
It really hasn't been much of an issue, with a good base line set up. Could be a little more if we had a rider really extreme in one end or other, very light, or very heavy, but most do fall in the middle. I didn't hear one comment at the dealer day from any of the coches, and we probably an 80-90 diff in weights from lightest to heaviest coach.

Doesn't look like Melandri is doing any better on a Honda they he did on a Kawi.
That guy seems to run hot or cold. But, lets give him a few tests and races, see how he settles down with the team and bike.
CF

Let me ask this- Are you saying there is a mistake that causes the rider to be too hot, or a mistake as a result of being too hot?
You have done Level 2, what do you think?

How much did you pay for your used A*?
I paid about $500. It's basically brand new w/o tags and this model comes with a back protector
Might consider getting a hard back protector, some clubs require one and certainly as you level up you will need one.
It was like seat belts for me--never used one, till I was requried to, now feel naked w/out the belt (or back protector) on.

I am planning to do Level 3 class this year. according to the map of the U.S. you have Mid Ohio but Mid Ohio is not listed on the schedule? so is the map wrong or is the schedule missing the dates at M-O?
Hi Duc,
We have done M-O and would like to get back there, but its not on the schedule for this year (we did go last year). The schedule does change a little bit every year, it's never exactly the same. We are going to NJMP this year, 3 times, and that is a really nice track, if you can make it there, not likely will you be disappointed.

PS: What's with the "Squid" reference under my forum name? Beginner/noob yes but Squid, that's kind of insulting..
We do like to have some fun

Thanks Cobie. OK, I had thought that the DVD and books were a good idea, so I'll go ahead an do that. Think I answered my own question there I suppose.
The camp includes helmets and leathers. Any of my own gear I should bring?
Hi Lane, sorry for the delay, wasn't up on the forum for a few days .
You can bring any of your own gear that you like, but we'll have it all there--boots, helmets, leathers, gloves and we might have back protectors by then too. Our gear is all good, but sometimes if you have something that fits really well, hard to match that.
If you are a normal size, not really extreme, our gear works pretty well. Sometimes on the helmets it helps (not just our helmets) to put a little foam in the top, if the helmet sits too low, cuts intot he vision. Boots and gloves can be another issue, but we have Alpinestar this year, they make nice gear.

Hi everyone! My name is Scott and I am signed up for the March 20-21st Vegas session. I cannot wait to get riding again (it's been a long winter staring at my bikes in the garage). I'm pretty nervous as I have very little track experience, but I have caught the bug! I wasn't sure if I should attend the school this year or wait until I have my first full year of track days finished, but I came to the conlcusion that it's probably easier to learn new skills now than to break a bunch of bad habits later (I already have enough of those from the street)!
Cheers everyone, I'm sure I'll see a few of you in Vegas!
Hi AB,
I know you have already posted elsewhere, but welcome anyway!
For sure would have to agree with you--coming to the school to start, then go a bunch of track riding, pretty much guarantee that will be a better long (and maybe short) term result
Come and say hello when you get to Vegas, I'll be there.
Best,

Hello to everybody. Pictures tell all the story! Great time, every time!
Christos--is that snow in the picture, or just large rain drops?

Just demoed the S1000RR, bike is just amazing, went back next day and ordered one.
I am SO looking forward to Willow at the end of March. 2 days on S1 at a track are worth the price alone.
Hey Two,
Where did you demo it?

yeah, like to see Ben up front for sure. Won't be betting against him for sure.
