  1. the BBC comentators here say thats when you know that rossi is right on the limit when he does that, I have noticed him doing it for a few years now and more recently have noticed a few other guys doing it especially the ones that have come up from 250s! Ialways thought it was to get some weight out just before turn in but I suppose it makes sense that it would happen after a downshift considering that they will have a race shift pattern 1 up 5 down as opposed to standard road pattern 1 down 5 up meaning that after a down shift the foot would be under the gear lever and would have to come out before turning in and back on the footrest ready for the next upshift.
  2. Just did my level 1 at Rockingham UK and it was amazing what a difference in my riding in 1 day, it was raining most of the day dried out for my 3rd session then started to rain again but the wet weather just slowed everything down a bit and gave more time to focus on the drills, I never thought I`d ever say I enjoyed riding in the rain but It was great and my throttle control has improved loads and then the last session when I did the 2 step drill that just opened up the whole track to me and suddenly I had loads of space, who would have thought that how you use your eyes could make such a big difference. My instructor (Jet) was great and helped me out loads with things I was struggling with and has definately made me a safer, faster and better rider, also Andy Ibbott was brilliant in the class room setting out our drills and explaining what to do and what benifits we would get from doing them and why they worked. The whole day was great and I cant wait to do the rest of the levels but untill then I will be practicing my level 1 drills untill they become 2nd nature to me.
  3. just got an email from css uk and they are filming the schools on 7th and 8th july at Rockingham for motors tv, I am doing level 1 there on the 7th so should be fun,
  4. thanks that is great and such an easy way to find a comfortable riding position, I am doing level 1 here in the uk in two weeks so hopefully will get some pointers from my coach then!
  5. Yeah, I think I'd have to agree. Indeed. I'd really like to see Nicky back on top of the podium again. I think he has another good chance at his "home track" Laguna. Indy will be a new track for everyone. yeah Nicky is always good at laguna, he got the pnumatic valve engine this weekend and has qualified 4th so hopefully he can turn it into a podium tomorrow also Ben Spies has qualified 8th in front of Pedrosa in the wet at a track he has never riden before WOW! Could upset a few of the regulars!
  6. I have a locking on question, hopefully someone can help me with! Since reading TOTW 1and 2 it seems to have opened a big can of worms regarding every area of my riding, this is one I have been practicing recently and am having problems with! I do a calf raise to lock on no problem but looking at pics of racers and even alot of you guys in this forum they are locking on with knee and outside forearm parallel to the knee on the tank, this looks to me like a very secure way to lock on but when I try it my arm rests on my knee as I have no room to get my forearm onto the tank, I am 6ft tall so I feel that maybe I just have to develop my riding style to suit, hope this makes sense but is it ok then to rest my elbow on my knee while turning or is there somewhere else my arm should be instead?
  7. Wow... MotoGP at Catalunya. I am so envious. I'm hoping to find a way to attend the MotoGP at Indianapolis this year. I'm afraid I'll have to choose between CSS and AMA Superbikes at Mid-Ohio and the GP at Indy. I think the smart chioce would be CSS + AMA at Mid-Ohio and watch Motogp on tv, My girlfriend and myself love motogp so try to time our summer holiday (vacation) in with one every year, hopefully Mugello next year, Ben Spies is ridind the Suzuki here at Donington park this weekend in place of Caparossi which Ithink will be very interesting as this will give him time to get used to the bike and setup in preperation for his wildcard rides at Laguna and Indy, though I would like to see Nicky Hayden get back on the podium.
  8. Since I have read the twist books and have booked for school I am always looking at racers styles now with interest to see what they are doing and when they do it and with some I think the calf raise is done so smoothly its hard to notice it also seems as though the pros anchor on with there inner thigh rather than the knee! The one thing I notice the most is how far some of them seem to roll into the turn on what seems to be a closed throttle but I suppose for some they will still be on the brakes at this point! I went to the moto gp at Catilunia in spain last week and watched thomas luthi and his style is very smooth and fast, the whole weekend was great!
  9. I thought it was a good track, lots of corners and only one straight as such, so good for practising. I was my first time on a track though, so my opinion of a good one is rather limited! I just booked my level 2 for june 10th, a bit soon really, but there are hardly any places left this year! Right, it's a beautiful day so I'm off for a ride. Wow the school must have made a good impression on you to have booked level 2 so soon, True though this years places are selling out fast, I`m glad I booked level 1 when I did, let us know how level 2 goes!
  10. sounds like you enjoyed the day, i am going to Rockingham in july and really looking forward to it. is it a good track?
  11. I?m no expert but from reading the twist books rolling off is a big no no! page 16 TOTW2 what is the basic rule of throttle control? once the throttle is cracked on, it is rolled on evenly, smoothly, and constantly throughout the remainder of the turn. I am working on this at the moment always trying to improve my throttle control!
  12. thanks I was just curious really, as will be doing level 1 in july! intending doing all 4 levels eventually so will get my hands on them all sooner or later
  13. can anyone tell me what special bikes you use at what level? I know the slide bike is used in level 3 but what about all the other training bikes.
  14. great review, that gives us people that have never done a school an idea of what to expect. I am doing level 1 in july and hopefully do a 2 day camp next year, shame you never got on the lean/slide bike as that looks like you could learn alot with that bike.
  15. can anyone tell me what special bikes you get to use on level 1 i.e braking rig, lean bike or whatever
  16. Unfortunately I could only make it for the 7th of July Rick but cant wait all the same.
  17. Managed to get time off work and am going for level 1 at Rockingham UK on the 7th July, I cant wait, its an 800 mile round trip for me but it will be worth it. If anyone on here knows of any good hotels or B&Bs in that area with secure bike parking please let me know.
  18. Ok the forums been quiet the last few days while ccs is on there east coast tour so I thought I`d ask you all this question. I have never set my sag on any of the bikes I have bought until now, but only as I am educating myself on suspension setup I wonder how many other people are happy to keep factory settings, so for all of you guys and girls out there, when you get a new bike do stay with factory settings, do you run factory settings for a while to see what its like and then set your sag later or is setting your sag the first thing you do when you get your new bike. cheers B
  19. I will be watching this with interest as I thought any road tyres would be fine for level 1.
  20. to be honest I`m not sure if they hold bike only track days at the nurburgring, I think I will look into that, I have always just turned up on tourist days and went on then for a bit of fun. I understand the 100mph average at the Isle Of Man is a common goal, Wow what corner speed the guys must carry to acheive that is unbelievable to me. the 130 mph average was set last year so competition is going to be great this year.
  21. Riding the Nurburgring north loop (nordshliefe?) on any race bike and breaking the "century" (100 mph average) racing a 125 at the Isle of Man are among the top ten of my "must do before I die" list (along with orbiting Earth in a spaceship). I really envy riders who live close enough to make studying The Ring and Isle of Man an ongoing life-long project. Hi Racer Riding the Nurburgring north loop (nordshliefe? German for north loop apparently, but it is what they call it there anyway!) is the biggest buzz ever though I dont think I would ever be able to to hit a 100mph average round it but then I am not a racer, only a road rider and I do it on my road bike just for fun, the crazy thing about the ring is that they let anything on during tourist days. I have went into a blind corner to see a tour bus doing 25 mph in front of me, I have also seen cars blow there engines and leave an oil slick running for about half a mile down the track, it can be very scary at times and for sure is not the place to commit 100% unless you are lucky enough to be a racer and get the ring for yourself. I have never been to the Isle of man so cannot comment on that, though it looks amazing on tv! I wish I had more time on my hands to try the isle of man but I travel to the ring with friends every year and now that I have discovered the CSS I will be focusing on that, going to book level 1 this week after reading the books (twist 1 and 2 and soft science) I am obsessed with learning more and doing all the levels, I want to become the best I can be. Alot of people here ride what you call literbikes(1000cc) because they are the fastest thing out there, and I want to develop my skills so that i can pass a few of them on the track on my cbr600rr so back to the subject, I will be traveling to the nurburgring this year with level 1 under my belt and once I have done level 1 I will have another track to comment on, Rockingham (UK). cheers B
  22. hi and welcome first of all I think your English is fine! I also wondered about size of racers, I am 6 ft and 200lb not a racer though just a road rider that does a few track days! I beleve that Leon Camier from Airwaves Ducati in the british superbikes is 6ft 4 and it does not seem to slow him down, also watching moto gp I always think that Colin Edwards looks really tall on the bike but it may just be his riding style, not sure how tall he is though. I think that in moto gp maybe the super light bikes (145 kg) benifit from the rider also being light, possibly why dani pedrosa does so well. I am not familiar with how many women there are in racing I have seen some very fast girls on trackdays though and there are a few that participate in club racing here in the UK, probably some of the other guys and girls on this forum can answer your question better as I beleve that there are women racing in the AMA in America! I also would like to know how racers/riders train for fittness, I know alot of them cycle for training but dont know what else. Enjoy your learning experience on motorbikes and take care B
  23. Thanks Again Cobie Thank you for the information that I can do the schools anywhere in the world, that opens up alot of doors for me due to my job I do not have as much time as i would like but can easily tie in a 2 day camp during my time off. I will be concentrating on doing a school in the uk this year, and then hopefully a 2 day camp in the us next year, as far as tracks are concerned due to flights from scotland I would probably be doing las vegas motor speedway, possibly thunderbolt raceway or streets of willow springs, I would really like to ride on laguna seca but I think I will wait till I have done level 4 to get the benifit of riding at that track. Thank You Bobby
  24. A school will be excellent, hope you can get one in soon (nothing quite like getting coached in person). One tihng to look at in the mean time will be the Twist 2 book, chapters on throttle control. That will get you in the right direction. best, Cobie Thanks for the advice Cobie have re read twist 2 like you said and I am enjoying practicing and playing around with the throtle attempting to get the correct balance, the bike feels alot more stable now, definately the way forward. I will be going to school hopefully later this year if not definately going to do a few next year, I would be interested in doing a 2 day camp in the usa next year with you guys and was wondering if that is possible since I am from scotland, also if i did level 1 in the uk is it ok to do levels 2 and 3 in the usa? what i mean is are the levels recognised on an international level? hope that makes sense Thanks Bobby
