  1. 1) I'm at a point where I try to set my entry speed without using the brakes. This requires thinking ahead just a bit. When I use my brakes it is front only. I try to finish all my braking just as I'm turning in. I finish my turn and apply maintainence throttle to my apex then roll the throttle on as I exit the turn. That was what my brain was telling me I was doing. THEN!!! after 2 trips on the camera bike it appears that I'm a lot later on the throttle exiting the turns than I thought. 2) I would think that I'm easy on my bikes suspension. One has junk suspension from the factory, it really does. Soon to be upgraded. The other bikes suspension has never been serviced and she is 18 years old now. Mind you, I have been slowly working on getting her out of "garage queen" frame of mind. In one year I've put more miles on her than the previous owner did in 13 years. 3)It sounds like the rider is rushing. What causes a rider to rush? Slow down and take a wide view. Relax. If it is a rough throttle transition, to abrupt, then maybe placing a finger or two on the brake lever would help. That would give the riders hand/brain a reference point to work from. practice, practice, practice
  2. Very interesting comments in the video. It's 45 minutes! https://docs.google....FNG8/edit?pli=1
  3. Interesting pictures. I would have thought that all of the combustion chambers would have been identical. I'm not talking about the carbon buildup. Looking at the areas between the exhaust valves in particular cyl's 1 & 2 have divots or casting irregularities compared to cyl's 3 & 4. And something looks a touch odd about the exhaust valves on cyl 1, but it could be the angle of the picture too. It is neat that they included a small recess in the casting to enhance flame propagation.
  4. Nice write up. You forgot about the time change form GA to AL didn't you?
  5. Td, Not knowing if you have had any luck with the rear yet I figured I would at least let you know there may be a reasonable solution. Yesterday I ordered some fork service tools from Traxxion Dynamics and thought "What the heck, lets ask about suspension for my bikes and also if they may be able to help you with your spring/shock issue." They say that they could help. From spring ( which according to them the stock is already close for you weight) to shock rebuild/revalve. The gentleman I was talking to is named Dan. http://www.traxxion.com/ Disclaimer: I am not affiiated with Traxxion Dynamics in any manner whatsoever. I have not used any of their products and to the best of my knowledge I do not know anyone who has. I am considering giving them a try. Jeff
  6. Just a last minute reminder for those of you traveling in for this weekend. Travel safe and let's have a good weekend. Jeff
  7. That is for sure Oh stop kissing up to the head master! Aloha, Majdi El-Ahwal Your just jealous cause we beat you to it. I guess I'll let the cat out of the bag seeing as though the cat has the head masters proverbial tongue and he's not answering. I recon he is busy with all his minions and students atm. I'm looking for an over the leathers rain suit. Suggestions? Thanks Jeff
  8. Andy, You are right about soo many choices out there for suits. I would think that if it is quality, with the key word being quality, the manufacturer really should not mater very much. If you are built in a manner that an off the rack suit fits proper then you are in luck. As a reminder, when you go trying on suits make sure you will be dressed under the suit the same as when you ride. Go sit on the bike etc... If some area doesn't feel right it may not work itself out later. Different brands will fit different in the same size. Just like shoes Custom may be the best bet for the money. I recently gave away a 1 piece Dainese that just fit wrong in all the wrong places I was told that it would stretch out with wear. Well it didn't and I wasn't thinking about under gear etc... and the fact that when I bought it I was about 20 lbs lighter than normal for me. So, whatever you buy think ahead a little in time. Will this suit fit in 5 years? Good luck Jeff
  9. Thanks for the replies guys. Maybe I should have left off the grippy area statement. Cobie knows the answer. Cobie knows ALL the answers!!
  10. As topic states. What brand would you recommend for a reverse slip & slide? Will there be any grippy area to help with locking the body to the tank or is it just a ###### shoot with all of them? Thanks, Jeff Edit: I didn't think that c r a p would get nailed.
  11. Nic, What gear/s are you practicing your downshifting? This could have a lot to do with the pogo'ing you are experiencing.
  12. Tyler, Did you do anything different before this track day? Did you run the first 2 sessions on gas that was in the tank and then topped her up with gas from a jug? If so was the gas fresh or old? Stored inside or outside....? Gas from a different store or anything that could affect the operation of the motor. Is your bike carbed or injected? Did you continue to push the motor or did you back off/shut down after the 3rd session? If you got gas from a different station then it could be as simple as bad gas. But depending on how you treated the bike after she started complaining could have a lot to do with repair cost and time. If the exhaust is glowing then you are running lean, very lean. You mentioned that the temp gauge was showing normal. Unless it is bad then the cooling system is working just fine. Did you hear any funky noises coming from the engine? Blah blah blah...... I always look at the cheap stuff first. I have learned that more times than not it is the cheap stuff that caused the problem in the first place. I would recommend draining the gas from the tank and trying fresh/different gas first. You can always use the drained gas to smoke out an ant bed. Let's hope that it is nothing major, unless you were looking for an excuse to upgrade Good luck and let us know what you find. Jeff
  13. To me it sounds like you are running very lean. Check fuel filters, etc...
  14. Duh!!! If I had of paid attention to your post about tires I would not have asked such a silly question. Travel safely.
  15. Great, I'll be hanging around on the 30th and 1st, riding in on either a SC/GT or 916. Camp for me on the 2nd and 3rd so BMW's for me on the track. Flying or driving?
  16. Welcome aboard. You will have fun and learn a lot. I'm assuming that you are coming to Barber's?
  17. Just letting everybody know that I-20 East is closed from the airport to I-459. If you are flying in you will be detoured via I-59 to I-459 to get to Barbers. So, if you are flying in on Thur or Fri I would recommend not being near the those Interstates around or during rush hour. 4PM - 6PM?. This closure is diverting 30k-40k cars per day. This will not affect anyone traveling back to the airport from the Leeds (Barbers) area. That will be later this year . If you are coming in from the Atlanta area (I-20W) life should be normal. If you are coming in from the Chattanooga area (I-59S) things could get entertaining, but that depends on where you are staying. If you are coming in from the West (I-20/59) take I-459. If you are coming in from the North/Northwest ( I-65) (I-22/US78) either take I-65 to I-459 or US280/Red Mtn Expressway to I-459. I will be at the track the whole weekend. 2 day camp on Sun and Mon. If you are coming please travel safe and I'll see you there. Any route questions please ask. Jeff
  18. I should have posted my reply different. My thoughts are if this were posted in the tire section then the forum tire guys would be more likely to reply with their knowledge and wisdom. That was all. After riding a private track day with ambient temps starting in the low 40'sF 5C with a brisk wind no one seems to thrilled to hit the track in a hurry. There was a lot of concern about the track and tire temps. The Bridgestone reps that were there stayed busy for the first few sessions checking tire temps etc... until the track warmed up some. The beginning of our track season can be real questionable temp wise in the area I live. aslcbr600 you have brought up a good topic and I will keep an eye on it. Thanks. my take on your 4 points. 1. not sure either. 2. harder in the cold. Why. I use summer tires on my car year round. They are soft, easy to sink a fingernail into. They are not recommended for temps below 32F 0C. And noticing how hard the winter tires are in Northern America. 3. I literally just finished watching Twist 2 DVD and it is covered in the movie. You have to be easier on the controls. 4. I have no idea.
  19. Bad Bad Bad!!! You have been one lucky camper by doing so. To date I can't think of anything worse than downshifting in a downhill turn and watching the front tire slide out from under me. Because of which I have one turn that will always be close to my heart. Please don't do it. What is the natural instinct of a person when going downhill? Push off of anything that you can, right? Now your slowing down while going downhill, what do you do? Did you forget that gravity is working against you? It will take longer to slow down, etc... Do you use the bars as a brace for your upperbody? If so what does that do for your steering? One thing that I do now when I think that I am or could load up the front forks (because of my body) under braking is rolling my shoulders forward. When you roll your shoulders forward you naturally unlock your elbows, therefore take the load off the front forks.from locked elbows, then you have to use your legs/back to keep you from using your arms. Try keeping your elbows locked after you roll your shoulders, can you do it? Yeah I know it is a scattered reply but I hope you get understand what I am trying to say.
  20. TD if you have not serviced your rear shock it may be due, or past. If Race Tech can not provide a better solution for the rear you may need to look at other sources aka Ohlins, Penske, etc... Check the rear ride height even if the rear shock is in good order. Past that point it would be a good idea to "Ask the Cheif". You may get some good advise there. It may be wise to check the front forks for straightness now.
  21. ktk what kind of camera are you using? As for mounts I tried the mounting stuff that I bought for my GoPro but was not very happy. It seemed that it was more for bicycles rather than motorcycles. I have since switched over to Ram mounts. http://www.rammount.com/Products/MotorcycleMounts/tabid/128/Default.aspx#/ So far so good with them.
  22. TD, first I should have mentioned that it's good you weren't injured. I got lucky and could actually review the video ( not many guest at the hotel, atm). What have you noticed about the turn that you crashed in? Flat, banked, off camber, etc... It is a banked turn. Where does the track return to flat? Is it at some point in the turn or on the straight? At 1:56 you check the throttle. At 1:57 the grinding you mentioned. At 1:58 you take the worm burner route into the gravel. What happens to the suspension in a banked turn? What happens to the suspension when you let off the throttle? What do you think could happen if you were at a nice lean angle in a banked turn with the suspension travel bottomed out (dragging hard parts) and then applied the throttle while not realizing that the turn was going flat ? I was knee-down so there was a small hip check to the track but it was only about 1' or less. Could that be where the track starts flatting out? btw I have not rode Miller Motorsport so I have not a clue of how the track really is. From the video I think you got sucked into that turn by the track designer. Is it really a throttle control issue, or a combination of several factors that all came together at that moment to say " Hello." I tend to think it is the 'combination'. What do you think?
  23. TD, You say that you had a peg drag. Was it the peg or maybe someother hard part. If that is the case would you think that maybe it might not have been throttle control but the unloading of the rear tire (off the ground or darn close to it) due to some part of your bike grinding into the track first? Because of lack luster internet where I am currently. I intend on watching your video many more times and listening closely, when I get home ( in a few days). I am curious if grinding or dragging noise can be heard before the motor rev's away.
  24. Honestly, I think that I am 10 or 20 years to "the newer" side on my guess. It seems I remember reading that article. Could it be a repost on CSS? Hmm, not sure. it may even be that I missed by 30 years. Anybody else willing to take the plunge? Or is your manly/womenly hood getting in the way? Quack, Quack!
