  1. I think the elite riders have intangibles that seperate them from everyone else. I was reading an article in RRW about Rossi going 199 mph through the speed trap, reach over and adjust his brake lever, then pass Edwards and Nakano in the corner. He obviously sees things differently than everyone else.
  2. Thanks for the info, Cobie. I have qualifiers on my street bike and thought it would be fun to run it in a track day every now and then, but didn't want to put new tires on my street bike after every track day. Sounds like they should do alright for a spin around a track every now and then without killing the bike budget. Thanks.
  3. Hey Cobie, I am curious is you might know the answer to this question: How often does the school switch out the qualifiers? I rode one of your bikes for levels 1 and 2 and thought they were pretty good. I was curious as to the life of the tires with the school.
  4. I have had stompgrip on my r1 which is primarily a road bike. I've had them on for about 2 years and love them. The only draw back is the occasional joke from "uniformed" friends about my bike "being ribbed for someone's pleasure." I hear techspec's are good too. I think there has been quite a bit of discussion on the forum comparing the two. Happy Riding! Tanner
  5. I haven't posted much, but read almost everything. The greatest benefit for me has been as a newbie in the track scence to be able to see where I have been and where I can go with more work. I read posts from the new guys and remember what that was like and can see where I've progressed. Its also encouraging to know some of the answers to the questions being asked. Kind of an affirmation of what I have learned. And then to contrast that with the more advanced riders and discussions. I realize just how much room for growth there is . To be completely honest I skim through alot of the "physics" discussions, mostly because my riding isn't to the point where I need to be worried about that much detail. Overall, between the school and the forum, I feel like I have eased my way into track riding.
  6. When I did level I it was my first time on track and it definately gave me a foundation to work from. I definately benefited from having an structured training rather than trying to figure things out for myself. You will definately get alot out of level I. I did level II as well before doing anything else on track and found that extrememly helpful. I was then confident to head to the track with my new skills and ride plan in hand. The Twist books are extremely helpful too.
  7. I've heard of guys in the midwest who are so desperate for turns that they'll just keep going around the freeway cloverleafs. Man, that's desperate! Yeah, I don't think I'll ever get to that point!!!!
  8. Last turn of the day is tough eh? We need to get you riding some more:) C Definately need more riding!!! I live in farmland Illinois and 90% of the roads are straight and flat. And after doing levels 1 & 2 straight and flat is getting kind of boring. But there is good news: I am in the process of buying an old F3 for track days and I do live only 20 miles from the Autobahn Country Club track. So there are curves ahead. Don't worry Cobie, I'll be a coach before you know it.
  9. I totally agree with Cobie. As I was completing level 2, I really felt the track "open up" and was not only able to concentrate on the level 2 drills, but also work on the concepts from level 1. Level 2 was huge for me and really allowed me to get past some personal barriers. I regret waiting as long as I did between the 2.
  10. I've always had a hard time with the last turn of the day; Whether into the pit lane or the driveway, my bike seems to want to keep going straight.......Can't seem to find the proper adjustment to correct that either......
  11. I had never been on a track before when I did level 1. and it was intimidating at first. But everytime you go out they will have you working on different exercises so if you concentrate on the drills you can forget about the other riders. Once you get past that initial sensation of being overwhelmed you'll have fun and be anxious to do it again. Have fun.
  12. Hello everyone. I've been guilty of being a "lurker" for a while now and thought I would get involved. My name is Tanner and I live about an hour south of Chicago, IL. Not really a prime location for roadracing. Plenty of crazy highway stunters, but not much in the track scene. I've done Levels I and II at blackhawk farms and Mid-Ohio. I used the school as my intro to the track scene and have yet to participate in a track day. I am excited though that they built an awesome facility about 15 minutes from my home, the Autobohn Country Club in Joliet, IL. I am signed up for some track action this summer. I see that blackhawk farms isn't on the 2008 school schedule, wondering what happened. Hopefully the school comes back, or better yet, comes to Joliet. That would be awesome!!!
