I tend to hold onto bikes for a while so not a huge list,

my first bike gave best value for money, it was a yamaha XS250 which I paid £220 for in 1993 put 25000 miles on it and sold it for £240 in 2001 lol,

then it was a 600 diversion till 2003, never took to this bike,

then onto my CBR600F bought brand new and I loved it until I traded it in for the

CBR600RR in 2006, this is now my current trackbike, And earlier this year I bought myself a

Ducati 848 for the road which just makes me go wow every time I ride it!

I have been fortunate enough that throughout my biking life every bike has been better than the previous one!

And now one for the dirt, just bought myself a yamaha YZ250 which I will be trying out for the first time today!

So hay in 17 years of riding I have only owned 6 bikes, 3 of which I still own!

I must have an agricultural interest, since my list of bikes only include Yamaha's*:

XT600Z '88 95-98: got stolen from a parking cellar, only to be found a couple of km's away near Akerselva in Oslo, stripped of rear wheel and most parts, but not the new WP rear shock. Sold it to a friend who turned it into a true offroad bike [think woods])

YZF600R '98: 98. Sold it when moving back to Denmark from Norway (Oslo). Almost totalled it on Rudskogen, but was rebuilt by the insurance.

YZF600R '99: 99-01. Added Öhlins fork springs and rear shock. Lovely. Sold it when moving to Sweden

YZF-R1 '02: 02-03. Got stolen from another parking cellar, after 1 year and 5 days  Never recovered.

YZF-R6 '01: 03-09. My first trackbike. Eventually I missed having those extra ponies (it had just 95bhp) and a more modern bike, so I sold it.

YZF-R1 '03: '04--. Current streetbike. Öhlins springs and rear suspension, PPtuning rearsets w/race shift pattern ( to match the R6 '08).

YZF-R6 '08: '09--. Current trackbike. Öhlins cartridge kit, rear shock and steering damper. PPtuning handlebars & rearsets. Does around 115bhp. Nice :D

Oh, and I still have that Polini 911DB "DreamBike", though I haven't been riding it since 2004

*) In case you wonder about agriculture == Yamaha. Think Gearbox. Enough said.

Why settle down (unless you have taken a beating on the sales). :)

Hmmm, that's a good point :)

Now that I look closer at my list I see there's no BMW, Kawasaki, Ducati, KTM, Aprilia... I'm glad my wife hid the checkbook :D

My list is a bit more modest. Aside from the assortment of dirt bikes I had growing up, it consists of:

Kawasaki 600R

Suzuki GSX-R750

Yamaha R6

Currently I ride a BMW K1200R and I'm considering adding a dedicated track bike. Thanks to my first 2 levels with CSS, I've got "S1000RR" on the brain :P but that is probably not in the cards this year.

Would you say that riding MX bikes have made you faster riders on a road race track, or have you adopted skills and reflexes that are detrimental to performance on asphalt?

I can't help but believe offroad riding helps make a person more prepared for ANY form of motorcycling. The dynamics, control/reaction required helps develop feel for the machine under your bunns. At least the way I see it.

...and the RC51 is the most special bike in your list. Lots of sporty machinery ;)

The RC51 has the most compelling sound of any street bike I have heard on the track - and that's coming from a Ducati guy.

Hmm, there seems to be a Kawasaki theme here

scotchgit, being a Zed Head is complete okay and I wouldn't mind having the vast majority of the bikes you've had! B)
