  1. I went -1 +2 on my F4i based on recommendation. It was fun at first, but I plan to change it back. I use it street/ trackday.
  2. Could try http://www.earplugs4u.com/ . They're in Diamond Bar. I have no experience with them, but have heard good reviews. Personally, I tried the Jawbone 2, but could not get a comfortable fit. I replaced it with the Motorola H710 and couldn't be happier. The H710 over the ear is only $35 and conveniently turns on when you flip it open. Apollo, THANK YOU for this excellent recommendation, I checked out the link above, called the guy on Friday, got an appt for Saturday. Fitting was easy, pricing was reasonable, and Mark was a super nice guy and terrific to work with. The whole process only took about 30 minutes, I got earplugs and an earpiece for my phone. I'll try the earplugs out on the bike next weekend and let you know how they work. So thanks again, this was very helpful!! After this, Cobie, I'm all for adding that equipment section on the forum, I can sure see how it would be useful! I just caught on that you guys are talking about Bluetooth phone usage while riding! I thought we were discussing ELIMINATING noise and distractions :-)
  3. This definately has implications off the track as well. I own and keep in my library books like this:
  4. I post when I think I have something to contribute...or at least can share a laugh or two with something sarcastic...to try and keep it moving perhaps. Other times, some of the threads don't pique my interest.
  5. I just finished reading some interviews with Ben Spies, Casey Stoner, Nicky Hayden and Josh Herrin. For quite some time, I've been a student of the championship mindset and the distinctions are becoming clearer the wiser I get as to the differences to champions and non-champions. From Nicky's interview I learned that he has an incredible humility. Even though he himself is a World Champion, he feels honored to be teamed up with another World Champion. Casey has a never quit attitude, get it done regardless. Spies' attitude says, 'I'm well prepared for what lies ahead'. Mladin was the training ground on which he cut his teeth. Even going as far as saying, "A couple people have warned me that I'm going to have to watch out for so-and-so in World Superbike, and that they'll slice you up or play games with you… Listen, I'm on vacation at these races. No sweat, I'm ready to go out and have fun." I hope that someone can chime in and prescribe some material on creating, developing and grooming the MIND OF A CHAMPION.
  6. Yes, that term came to my mind as I read the article, too. In the field of human factors and ergonomics proprioception is understood to mean the ability to sense limb position. This is what is at work when you close your eyes and touch the tip of your nose with out having to feel around. This sense is considered to be under the category of touch. This has relevance in the sensing of lean angle, especially. Changing direction and speed are fundamentally just the sensing of force. But, at steep lean angles then the knee touches the tarmac and proprioception comes into play where your body position tells you your lean angle with much greater precision that the sense of force alone. Regarding your use of the word "meditate" which I think is totally appropriate. I find that the psychological aspect of riding a motorcycle at speed around a closed course to be so illuminating about one's inner self as to be rather profound. This is the thing that is most difficult to explain to a non-motorcyclist when they ask "why do you do it?" Someone who "gets it".
  7. I think that's a bad idea. Expect folks to conduct themselves poorly and they will; expect civility and be surprised when the rare person acts up. Plus it can easily become a stigma or even a barometer of "how close can I come to the edge without going over" (you know riders are edge people). Plus it's subjective...bad idea having the warn rating. That's my $.02, so buy me low; cause I'm about to BLOW UUUUUUUUUUUUUPPPPPPPPPP
  8. I looked on their website and didn't see it there. Does anyone know if they posted it?
  9. Count on Kevin for Positive Attitude. Thanks Kevin.
  10. I would recommend a marksmanship store or shooting range. Great idea, thank you! Do you think I could go to one without getting pulled into another expensive hobby?? I have confidence in your self-control.
  11. I would recommend a marksmanship store or shooting range.
  12. Hotfoot tried nudging a complete answer out of Keith, but he's being tight-lipped :-)
  13. Does this promote poor vision skills? IOW, if you're constantly looking at the road surface to find a reference point, you're not looking up and ahead. And who changed my forum (LOL)
  14. Using the wind to gauge speed can be deceptive. Air is also moving. You'd be surprised how well you can hear with ear plugs. I was nervous when I first tried it, but I prefer it now. I have a set of non-disposable that I've had a long time. They're wash and wear :-)
  15. Not conscious of using them. But I do know where I want to be to set up for the 90deg right.
  16. Good idea! Do you think my Evel Knievel stunt cycle will work??? I googled it.....I had one of those as a kid....awwwww you brought back memories
  17. Stairclimbers and pushups help. :-) j/k I have no idea.
  18. I've found that earplugs don't affect voice much, but it's hard to talk with 2 engines running even at idle while stopped at a light. Heck it's hard o do that with a helmet on your head with your buddy 4 feet away with another helmet on!!! According to what I recall in the Sport Rider article, the hearing damage is from wind noise not engine noise as we would think. So it would likely be okay for you to do MX or Supermoto. In the opinion of the forum are there any additional safety risks listening to music on the street or track?
  19. Is it possible to have a RP and not be conscious of it? I have a turn near home that I end up in the same place nearly every time. I'm obviously using RPs but not conscious of them. Does Rossi think to himself, "entry, apex, exit" or it is on a subconscious level? Is learning to corner using RPs akin to learning to dance by counting steps? (1-2-3-4, 1-2-3-4 don't step on the girl's feet 1-2-3-4) At what point do we do James Brown?
  20. The perfect tool for this experiment would be a radio controlled motorcycle. Would it have to be one of the expensive hobby types that would allow you to change the trail?
  21. I usually like wikipedia, but I'm screaming bovine scatology on that one.
  22. After I read that article in Sport Rider about Tinnitus and hearing loss, you bet I do. Much better on the wind noise and I can still hear the traffic on the street :-)
  23. How does the radius increase on a bike leaned to the inside of a turn when no bar input has been applied (assuming the tires are not sliding)? It just DOES, dammit. OK, I'll take a stab at this, but I'm fearful it will start one of those scary physics discussions. And before I even start, let me make the point that it's probably not realistic to assume the tires are not sliding - they pretty much always are, to some degree, when you are turning, right...? I THINK that as you roll on the throttle, you are increasing the force that is making the bike want to go straight (linear momentum?) AND stand up (less lean angle), so unless you actively prevent it from happening, the bike will stand up as you roll on and thus your circle will get bigger. If you roll on AND push on the bar to try to keep your lean angle constant, you will be adding more load on the tires and could lose traction. Yes, this IS an academic discussion. I recall in Twist 1 that it says that a motorcycle in a turn will continue to turn unless the rider's countersteering action stands it up.
