  1. I had a racer once tell me that he prides himself on being easy on his tires, while others brag about chewing them up. I once saw an interview that Miguel Duhamel did where he said that he went an entire season on a single set of tires (in his amateur days) and won the championship that year to boot! How's that for being smooth?
  2. Has anyone considered that the reason the pros ride MX, is simply because it's fun?
  3. Interesting question indeed. I have noticed in just about every professional sport, athletes that "retire" and then make a "comeback" are almost never near their previous performance level. I don't know why that is; and it seems to disagree with what I've heard behavioral specialty people say that it takes less effort to relearn a skill than it took to learn it the first time.
  4. When I say compelled, I mean that it feels weird to feel the bars turn-in and I feel I need to "correct" it to keep my line. I try to remind myself to do nothing, especially while going around the the HUGE off camber circle near my house. It's wet sometimes and the pavement changes also. Now that I've relaxed my death grip on the bars, I'm aware of the turning-in feeling. Any suggestions for truly relaxing and letting the bike do it's thing while I simply follow TC Rule #1?
  5. So he probably only get about 8 laps per session
  6. At least that's the way I remember the drill from L1 :-) Well, I've been focusing on a few things in my riding and it has made me aware of something (along with the discussions of late on simultaneous throttle/ steering inputs). I've noticed that my bar turns-in A LOT more than I previously realized. When I'm not focusing on it, I would hardly even notice, but sometimes I can feel the bars turn in, and feel compelled to countersteer to keep the bike leaned over. I have the feeling that if I add gas that it will stand up, but I know that I'm probably adding an inadvertant steering input. Brings me to this: Am I supposed to be able to feel the bar turn-in? Do I have my geometry all screwed up that's causing this (I do have a funky tire combo right now)? Or am I just becoming aware of something that we discuss in theory?
  7. Bullet, What about simply using a street/ trackday tire? My understanding is that these are designed for quick warm-up. My PPs kinda let me know (the front does at least) that it's ready to begin turning things up; depending on the day, but I get feedback about 1/2 -3/4 way through the 1st lap. I still slowly turn up the juice. I'm nowhere near the level where I need a dedicated track tire or much less warmers. Just my $.02
  8. Keep in mind Tweek, that CSS doesn't teach trailbraking, which is what you described.
  9. Why does this new board make it look like I said a curse word? (when I most certainly did not)
  10. First time, my knee hit the deck it was unexpected and It wasn't the goal, per se. I moreso felt something graze my thigh and was thinking, 'what was that???' Then I realized that it was the raised edge of the curbing and that if I stuck my knee out and didn't get spooked, it would touch down, but it still didn't. Gradually, lap after lap, I increased my speed in just that corner and then it happened. Soon it was happening in a few corners. Then I was just using it to tell me to arrest my lean angle and not get over any further. Is it a cool feeling? HELL YEAH!!! But when I TRY to do it, it scares the ###### outta me, and I'm conscious that my BP is all jacked up.
  11. Excellent questions at the end Hotfoot. I made the above mentioned Faux Pas about a week ago and felt the front give a bit, not the rear...Felt like it wanted to tuck. Or did I do something else?
  12. Thanks CBRKid. Good explanation.
  13. So you didn't notice that extra sandwich missing, eh?
  14. I thought for sure it was this weekend...but okay. You got PM.
  15. I've noticed that my grip has relaxed with my change in throttle rolling technique, which also helped with handling and other aspects of riding. It's amazing how changing one area can affect others.
  16. The cue-tee AKA QT AKA Quickturn: I've become a bit fuzzy on the technique a year after L2. In what way does the technique differ from normal turning technique? In the standard turn, the rider usually needs to get control of speed (brakes), which changes the geometry of the bike. The rider then times the release of the brakes with the counter-steering input, rolls on the gas and the rest is elementary. The QT is different. Is it only used in certain types of corners? Is there a roll-off? Are brakes used?
  17. Are you going to be at the event at the Pentagon this weekend?
  18. LOLOLOLOLOL....I like...and wish I'd thought of that.
  19. Let's see: Rossi vs Biaggi Rossi vs Gibernau Rossi vs Stoner Rossi vs Lorenzo some have even said that his autobiography is laced with misinformation.. LOL Seriously though, do you think the ego a hinderance to good riding or an asset?
  20. You guys missed the most fun trick of all....letting some pressure out of your brake lines>>>now THAT's fun!
  21. When on the side of the tire, the RPM will change because it changes the final gearing, not sure which way, but you can really tell on steeper profiled tires. On the street we can get away with all kinds of things that teach us bad habits. These bad habits usually reinforce all of the SR induced errors that we work hard on and pay lots of money attending schools to eliminate.
  22. Anything I can read here on the forum? My T2 is in storage at the moment :-(
  23. I don't think there are yet enough to make any reasonable conclusions.
