  1. I'm not sure about the picture on top, whether #17 is coming out of the corner or not, but if he's in the corner, the ideal place to be would be lower. You want to help the bike have as low a center of gravity as possible. The #28 on the left up there has pretty good BP, but since he's about bottomed out where he's at and not leaning off the bike as much as he's getting his body to the tank, if he leaned off the bike more, he would be farther from bottoming out, because he would be holding the bike up more, and he could carry more speed through the corner. As far as how your body should be, I have a picture on another post, because we've talked about this before, but I'm not on my home computer, so I can't repost it right now, but I'll explain it as well as I can. Picture a straight line from the tip of your rear plastics to the bottom center of your wheel. That's the straight line of your bike. Even when the bike is leaning, ideally you will want the imaginary line from the middle of your neck to your butt bone to be either in line with the bikes line, or a little farther out. I was trying to learn the "put your face where your mirror would be" thing, and I couldn't get into the correct BP with that. I started focusing on getting my chest into the tank, and after that worked on getting my outside shoulder on the inside of my tank while cornering. For instance, if you are turning left, you want your right shoulder as far to the left side of the tank as possible, and it put me in great position. The biggest thing is getting low. It helps the rider from interfering with the bike.
  2. Howdy. You've come to the right place to learn. You're going to be amazed how much there is to learn about something as seemingly simple as turning a motorcycle.
  3. I'm 6'2, and am one who could make it around the track and drag my knee once or twice every couple laps if I have it out just to warn me of how far down I am, but I do it on most corners because the sooner it's on the ground, the faster I can gage what corrections I'm going to make, and how I'm going to come out of the corner. Mine wear on the upper area faster because I'm sticking my leg way out. My avatar shows plenty of clearance, but my knee is down.
  4. I was actually days away from putting my down payment for a 2 day, and I remember the feeling. Welcome to the site.
  5. First, he looked OK. Didn't seem too high speed, but I'll bet he's sore right about now. I don't think he really chopped the throttle, but when the rear tire came loose, it sounded like he cranked it because there wasn't any resistance from that pesky traction to keep the tire from spinning freely. Sounds like regrip was pretty quick. I'd bet that it was toward the end of the day. He looked like he was really comfortable riding in the wet.
  6. Ah. I remember cold weather. Don't really remember what it feels like, but the thought of it makes me miss the cold. Welcome to the forum.
  7. Howdy. I'm a Kawi guy, and if I was more comfortable on my '05 ZX6R on a track, I'd think about a 10.
  8. Lap times will tell me if I'm getting lazy. I fall to the 1:12's when I'm being lazy. My problem is that when I'm focusing on my riding, I am in the 1:08's, and when I'm pushing it, trying to give 100% I'm running 1:08's. That's where I'm stuck. I know it's corner entry, and I'm working on corner entry speed for my next trackday which I think will make a big difference, but I'm not going to be on the track that I usually can gage my progress on.
  9. The races at Firebird this weekend were so windy they had to delay some races, and stopped one a few laps into it. Great racing though. Good to hear you had a good time. I'm delayed till probably next YEAR going to the school now (was planning on this April), but I'll get there.
  10. I think it undoubtedly makes people better riders whether on the street, or on the track, to learn the limits of the bike, and improved handling. It doesn't make them any wiser though. Riding track doesn't teach distance one is riding from cars or where to position the bike in a lane under certain circumstances, death zones, and things of that nature. Braking is a wonderful knowledge people can learn on the track that helps. I ride like a retard on the street more now than when I wasn't riding track. People I work with say I'm riding crazy, but I couldn't guess what I'm doing that scares them. I'm just riding as far as I know. And cars whipping by me, horns blaring, people skidding to avoid another car, or me, when they aren't paying attention doesn't even phase me anymore. I turn my head, make sure I'm not involved, and go on with my day.
  11. I don't cover my speedo, but most, as you've read, do. Or they just don't have one. When I'm focusing on my riding, I'm not even tempted to look at the speedo. When I'm warming up the tires I peek down at the end of the straight because I hit the corners at about 60%, but I can't when I'm pushing it. I'll wreck. All I know is when I'm starting on the track I go up 1, up 2 on the straight, down 2 at the end of it, up 1 after the double corner, down 1 etc. etc. Shifting. If you even THINK you're going to be tempted, tape it up. I've seen a new rider wreck at 17 mph in a 50 mph corner and thought it was the biggest wreck. Everyones question to him was "how do you know how fast you were going?" And have fun. You're going to love it.
  12. I know what you're asking, and am in the same boat. In Phoenix we have a couple options. One is a school that is geared toward beginner and superstreet riders, and one is a school taught by our local fast guy to our intermediate and advanced riders. His is $300 (a trackday is $200), and he teaches half the day, and the other half of the trackday is yours to practice. I'm not really sure whether it's worth it or not, and I was actually about to post a question similar to yours. I watched him race, and he is in and out of corners quickly, which is what I want to work on, but don't know if he'll allow me to focus on that. If he's willing to, I would probably try it. It's $100, and if he doesn't really help me progress I'm sure he knows the word of mouth damage would be very damaging. That leads me to believe that he'll offer something to help me progress.
  13. Howdy. I had a love for speed, and still do a little, but it waned when I started doing trackdays. It appears Stuman is our resident fast guy. I think he's the one who said the first thing he wants to know when he gets to a track is; what's the lap record. Getting around the track quicker is still my priority, and for me it was safer and faster to back off the throttle. Not focusing on speed made me that much quicker. In one trackday (when I finally figured it out) getting off the throttle, and paying attention to what is truly important knocked 12 seconds off my time on one track.
  14. Jaybird hit it on the head. That, and applying what you've learned. I love this site, and think it has helped me more than anything. The riders here clarify what I've read in the books. I'm still waiting to do a CSS class also. Even the riders at my local track agree it's the class to take.
  15. What station shows it in HD? We have comcast cable, and there is a Speed HD channel now. I have Dish, and missed Daytona. Anyone else have Dish, and if so, what are the US races listed under? The Speed Channel and AMA Pro Racing have really screwed the pooch with their racing. Daytona was shown live March 5th, and the Superbike and Supersport from Daytona (whatever they're called now) are going to be shown TOMORROW. Three weeks later. Next week they will show this weeks races from Auto Club Speedway.
  16. Alright. I know it's beating a dead horse, but I saw something today that I've never seen until World Supersport in Qatar (one of the best races I've seen). Sofuoglu was burning into a corner and out came the right leg. Kinda takes out the repositioning their foot theory?
  17. Howdy. Sounds like you're having a time of it. Can't wait to hear what the school does for you. Good luck and welcome to the forum.
  18. I don't know if you have an adjustable suspension, but that would be really cheap, and costs $30 at Firebird to have done. I've learned to adjust the front myself, and have a great setup. I can really feel the difference when I set it back to street setup. I'm going to pay next time for the rear to get done, and see if they think my front is alright. I'm trying to learn about it, but there is so much. I ride Pilot Powers, and think they're great. I'm going to try something else next time, but don't know if I'm advanced enough to know if another set will make a huge difference. If you can get some good times and lean angle with what you have, I'd stay with those until you need new ones. I bought the precut stompgrip for my bike, and it fit like a glove.
  19. He's insane. There is no way I would have guessed he would do so well. Problem is I'm a huge Haga fan, and this one year he has the possibility of winning.....
  20. Howdy. The 675 is on my list of possible bikes when I go looking for a new one. I just love my Kawi so much.
  21. Howdy. The ###### economy has snatched the CSS from my grasp, but I want to attend ASAP. I have plenty of bad habits, but consider myself a fast learner, and take in information pretty quickly when it's something that I'm this interested in. Good luck. I have no doubt that you're going to improve. Can't wait to do it myself.
  22. That's exactly what I was thinking while I was reading the other guys posts. The thing that sold me on not NEEDING tire warmers is that your coaches can get up to speed without them. I'm still working on them, though. I take a lot of time getting my tires warmed up. The thing with the rider, is that she has become very consistent very quickly. I'm thinking she just came in a little too hot. She wasn't able to explain it, other than: "Really weird feeling though, I have never lowsided before.... only highsided. Like everything is going great and looking through the turn then all of a sudden... no more motorcycle under you!" Thanks.
